The OACOA Executive Committee updated plans for serving and engaging central office leaders at our August meeting. A key to the committee’s plans is to develop “communities of interest” for our diverse membership.
OACOA serves administrators, supervisors and other school leaders who are not superintendents, principals or assistant principals. Our membership includes special education directors and coordinators, curriculum and instruction leaders, human resources directors, business managers, communications and technology professionals, ELL coordinators, food service and transportation supervisors, assessment and school improvement directors, facilities and maintenance managers, and many more job categories. That diversity presents some challenges, but it also presents some opportunities.
As an organization, our members have interests in common – such as student achievement and school funding and leadership development – with each other, and with other administrators who are part of the COSA family. But we also have issues that are specific to our various jobs. Over the next year, we’ll continue working to serve all OACOA members, both as a whole and within each of our “communities of interest.”
We’re not sure yet exactly how to meet the needs of OACOA’s many communities. We hope you help us figure that out. An upcoming step will be a short survey of OACOA members. Look for that in September. And also look for increased communication throughout the year.
In the meantime, if you have any thoughts or questions about how OACOA might better serve you, please share them via this blog. Just use the comment form below.
