|Success of legislative conference, school funding advocacy depend on YOU|
COSA and OSBA have joined forces to plan an “activist” Legislative Conference, but the effectiveness of the conference – and the activism – depends on YOU.
COSA, OSBA and other members of the education lobby are hard at work advocating for a K-12 budget that invests in schools and begins to make progress toward our ultimate goal, the Quality Education Model (QEM) funding level. But to make our advocacy really work, we need your help. That’s because, in order to understand what our funding proposal, “Investing in Public Education for a More Vibrant Oregon Economy,” really means, your legislators need to hear how the proposal impacts your district.
This conference provides you with the training and the opportunity to talk to your legislators about the K-12 funding proposal. Even better, it allows legislators to hear exactly what the proposal means for your schools, your teachers and your students.
The conference, set for February 18-19 at the Salem Convention Center, is intended to bring a wave of COSA and OSBA members flowing into the Capitol to speak with their legislators. And there’s no time like the present, as the 2007 Legislature has quickly started rolling.
Together, we can achieve a budget that begins to reinvest in our schools.
Together, we will:
The Sunday afternoon session includes keynote addresses from U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden and Oregon House Speaker Jeff Merkley; breakout sessions about advocacy, funding and communication; and dinner. The Monday session includes breakfast; meetings with legislators; and guest speakers, including Oregon State Rep. Sara Gelser
Please, join us in Salem. We'll have shuttles ready to transport you between the Salem Convention Center/Phoenix Grand Hotel and the Capitol. We'll give you tools to discuss the funding proposal, and the specific needs in your school district, with your legislators.
The registration fee is $95 and includes all workshop materials, hotel-to-Capitol shuttle, refreshments, Sunday evening dinner, and continental breakfast Monday morning. More information and online registration are available at OSBA.
