Corbett High School has been ranked 8th out of 25,000 public high schools in the United States by Newsweek magazine.

The ranking is based upon a calculation where the total number of Advanced Placement courses taken in the school is divided by the number of graduates. Corbett averaged 9.111 AP tests per graduating senior during 2008 AP testing. Corbett has steadily climbed in the rankings during the previous three years from 584th during 2006, 217th in 2007, and 86th in the nation last year.  (See the Newsweek list of the top schools in the country as well as a link to a video produced for Newsweek highlighting Corbett.)

Corbett Superintendent Bob Dunton and high school Principal Randy Trani will present the breakout session, "How to Build an AP Program for ALL Students," at the 35th Annual COSA Professional Development Conference at Seaside on Thursday, June 25.  The session will describe how Corbett has grown its AP program from less than 10 tests six years ago to more than 525 tests this year. The lessons Corbett has learned during this journey are applicable to both small and large schools alike.

The Newsweek recognition is particularly noteworthy because Corbett stands alone among the top ten in the country as a neighborhood school. It does not  screen students at the door such as some of the gifted and talented or magnet schools that comprise other schools in the top ten.
