We at COSA are saddened to hear the news of Concordia University-Portland's closure effective the end of April 2020. This is, no doubt, a very difficult time for staff and students.

Dr. Gustavo Balderas, the Superintendent of Eugene School District 4J since 2015, has been
named the 2020 Oregon Superintendent of the Year.

The 2019 Legislative Session, by any measure, was the best session for K-12 public education in a generation.  Highlighted by the work of the Joint Committee on Student Success and the passage of the Student Success Act (House Bill 3427), Oregon will invest $1 billion per year into the PreK-12 education system to start to address funding problems that have plagued Oregon schools for decades.

COSA was proud to honor our 2019 award winners at the 45th Annual COSA Conference in Seaside, June 19-21 this year. Congratulations to the following award winners!

Superintendents are leaders of PreK-12 school districts throughout Oregon. Their roles and responsibilities are vast and varied, ranging from managing multi-million-dollar budgets to ensuring the safety of the staff and students in their care.

For the first time in the history of COSA, over 40 administrators of color gathered at the Oregon State Capitol for a day of advocacy and action, to tell the state’s legislators what their students need to create an equitable educational environment.

Lee Loving, Ridgeview High School Principal, has been named the 2019 Oregon High School Principal of the Year by the Oregon Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA) and the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators (COSA).

Greg Harris, Rowe Middle School Principal, has been named the 2019 Oregon Middle School Principal of the Year by the Oregon Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA) and the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators (COSA).

Kourtney Ferrua, Wascher Elementary School Principal, has been named the 2019 Oregon Elementary Principal of the Year by the Oregon Elementary Principals Association (OESPA) and the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators (COSA).

North Eugene High School Principal Iton Udosenata has been elected as COSA President-Elect for 2019-20. COSA members voted via online ballot last month.  The COSA Board of Directors officially accepted the election results at their April 11 meeting.
