COSA's inaugural Leadership Academy for Beginning Principals begins July 18-20 at Linfield College.  The year-long academy, which will focus on the challenges facing new principals, continues with sessions in October and March.

The academy has been developed and will be taught by a faculty of successful Oregon principals and other experienced education leaders, including TSPC Executive Director Vickie Chamberlain, NWREL's Nanci Schneider, OEA's Valerie Sebesta, Redmond Superintendent Vickie Fleming and principals Matt Coleman, Sally Leet, Kris Olsen, Jill O'Neil, Perla Rodriguez and Brian Traylor.

During the July session, academy faculty will  engage participants in many important topics, including how to:

• Build a positive school climate with your employees
• Live ethics in leadership
• Build positive relationships and manage conflict
• Create and utilize accountability systems
• Develop and common mission and vision for instructional practice
• Plan for opening school events
• Expect and attain academic rigor
• Utilize effective communications tools

During follow-up sessions in October and March, the focus will be on:

• Supervision and evaluation
• Time management 
• Budgeting and finance
• Effective hiring practices 

Graduate credit is available.

Cost for each participant in the program is $600.  Registration fee includes all academy sessions, lodging at Linfield College in July, meals and materials.
