Full-day Kindergarten, RTI Top OESPA Spring Conference

Sessions about full-day kindergarten, Response to Intervention (RTI) and Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD) will be featured at the May 17-19 OESPA Spring Conference, "Preparing for Change," at Kah-Nee-Ta Resort.

The conference, hosted by elementary school principals in the the Central and Eastern regions of Oregon, is designed to:

Help elementary principals prepare for the future of their students’ education
Address critical issues in schools and districts
Develop strong bonds with peers

Key conferences sessions include:

Full-day Kindergarten
If you haven’t heard Dr. Vicki Phillips and her passion for kids, you’ll want to make sure you attend. Dr. Phillips was the State Superintendent of Pennsylvania as they moved to state funding of full-day kindergarten. She will help attendees understand the political and pedagogic issues we face as OESPA develops a position paper about full-day K.

Response to Intervention (RTI)
The RTI team from the University of Oregon will offer a primer in how to target systems for intervention to meet the needs of our most challenged students.

Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD)
Gene Caballero from Beaverton School District will demonstrate how GLAD can turn all elementary teachers into English Language teachers.

The conference schedule begins with a reception at 8 p.m. May 17. Sessions begin at 8:15 a.m. May 18. Recreation plans include a Thursday golf tournament and a Friday fun run/walk.
