Public high schools in Oregon can score up to $3,000 for their sports departments with a California Casualty Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant. California Casualty has been a COSA partner for more than 30 years.
The Oregon Association of School Executives (OASE), COSA's superintendents' association, will conduct seven regional "Off-the-Record" meetings around Oregon this fall.
The COSA/OSBA 2015 Legislative Report is now available. The report includes all legislation related to K-12 passed during the recent legislative session along with a list of interim committees and work groups.
Did you know COSA has five Boards of Directors? COSA is an “umbrella” association, with a 14-member Board led by President Cindy Quintanilla, who is Director of Secondary Programs in North Clackamas School District. There are four associations – called “departments” – under the COSA umbrella.
Is the state of K-12 education in Oregon analogous to the boiling frog? The premise of the anecdote is that if a frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out. However if it is placed in cold water that is slowly heated, its body temperature adjusting to its surroundings, it will not notice and will be cooked to death.
You hear it every day: Oregon’s graduation rate should be much higher. Our students should be achieving more in math, reading, writing, and science. Those things are absolutely true. What will it take to reach our goal, a 100% graduation rate?

Molly Ouche has been named the Oregon Middle School Principal of the Year by the Oregon Association of Secondary School Administrators and the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators. Molly serves as Principal for Parkrose Middle School in Portland.

Scott Drue, principal of Aloha-Huber Park K-8 in the Beaverton School District has been named the Oregon Elementary School Principal of the Year by the Oregon Elementary School Principals Association (OESPA) and the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators (COSA).

McMinnville High School Principal, Dr. Kris Olsen, has been named Oregon High School Principal of the Year by the Oregon Association of Secondary School Administrators. MHS ranks among the top performing schools in graduation rate and growth in student achievement.

Cascade High School Principal Matt Thatcher has been elected as COSA President-Elect for 2015-16. For next year, he will serve in the COSA Presidency with 2015-16 President Cindy Quintanilla (North Clackamas School District) and 2015-16 Past-President Colt Gill (Bethel School District).
