|'Principal of Year'/'Assistant Principal of Year' nominations sought|
It’s that time of year to nominate a worthy colleague for two secondary administrator awards.
The 2007 Assistant Principal of the Year, sponsored by NASSP and Virco, seeks outstanding middle and high school nominees. Last year's state winner, Candace Baker of West Albany High School, was among three finalists in consideration for the national award.
The other award, sponsored by NASSP and MetLife, is the 2007 Principal of the Year award. Last year, both a high school and a middle school winner were selected — Jim Saxon, from Sandy High School, and Clarice Schorzman, from Colton Middle School. This year, NASSP will be selecting a high school winner only; the middle school award will be selected by elementary-level administrators.
To encourage participation, the application form has been shortened for the initial judging. Once the state winner for each award has been selected, they will complete the remainder of the form to send into the national office. Completed applications for both Principal of the Year and Assistant Principal of the Year are due into the COSA office by November 1, 2006. The following is the information needed to complete each application for preliminary judging:
The recipients of each award will be honored at the OASSA/OESPA Conference January 15-17, and again at the COSA Conference in June. In addition, the national office hosts a special recognition event for each award.
Please contact COSA staff member, Nancy Moen, if you have any questions regarding the awards.
