Sara Nilles is settling in to her new role as the leader of the Oregon Association of Student Councils (OASC).  Nilles succeeds Nancy Moen as OASC’s Program Director.  Moen served the organization for 21 years.

Nilles officially assumed the duties of program director in September.  In recent weeks, she has overseen the OASC Advisor Conference in Beaverton, as well as Middle School Regional Workshops in Pendleton, Beaverton, Eugene and Ashland.  Next up is the OASC Fall Conference for high school leaders, set for November 7-8 in Seaside.

Nilles is new to her role, but not new to OASC.  “I first attended an OASC event when I was in middle school, and I have stayed involved ever since,” Nilles says.  “Nancy has been a mentor and a friend for a long time, and I am honored to be following in her footsteps at OASC.”

Nilles was a math teacher and student leadership advisor at Mountain View Middle School in Newberg prior to taking the OASC position.  Her goals for the organization include making the organization more inclusive by focusing on student leadership development, not just for members of student councils but for students involved in a variety of school activities.  She also wants to broaden services for middle school students, and enhance OASC’s web presence.

OASC, founded in 1954, is a nonprofit member association, serving middle and high schools by providing leadership development to students and advisors.  OASC is sponsored by COSA and OASSA.  The organization is governed by an Executive Board comprised of 10 adults and 11 students.  For more information, please contact Nilles.
