COSA and OSPA are offering a workshop, Next Steps Toward Implementation of SB 290, on Wednesday, August 15, at the Red Lion in Salem.  The workshop begins at 9:30 a.m.

Senate Bill 290 established new requirements for the evaluation of teachers and administrators, effective at the start of next school year.  This workshop will help districts to get ready to meet the new requirements, as well as help school leaders prepare for the evaluation criteria required in Oregon’s conditional ESEA waiver.

Starting at 9:45 a.m., Lebanon Superintendent Rob Hess and others will summarize the timeline and requirements for compliance, now that the State Board of Education has adopted the "Framework" for SB 290 compliance and the federal government has issued a conditional waiver on NCLB.  

From 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Attorney Nancy Hungerford will present "Options and Pitfalls to Avoid," addressing (1) Options for structuring the collaborative process, (2) Options for modifying your existing standards and evaluation process, (3) Pitfalls to avoid in collective bargaining regarding evaluation and SB 290-related proposals, and (4) Planning and training needed to make operational the new SB 290 evaluation system, particularly the goal setting for "student learning and growth."

An updated "SB Primer" by Nancy Hungerford and Kate Dickson, published by the Chalkboard Project, will be available for all participants.  Additional new materials will be provided related to waiver implementation.
