Scaling-Up Evidence-Based Practices in Oregon Print E-mail

April 30, 2010 - Eugene, Hilton

Presenting a New Cohesive Framework to Maximize Student Outcomes

Oregon is one of only four states to receive a federal Scaling-Up grant for this statewide project.  All districts and ESDs are encouraged to bring a leadership team and be part of the first state conference presenting the Oregon plan for implementing and scaling-up effective practices. Latest Scaling-Up information from ODE.

dean fixsen.jpgDean L. Fixsen, Ph.D. will present the keynote address.  Dean is co-director, along with Karen Blase, of the National Implementation Research Network and of the State Implementation and Scaling up Evidence-based Practices Center. He has spent his career developing and implementing evidence-based programs, initiating and managing change processes, and working with others to improve the lives of children, families, and adults. In addition to co-authoring over 100 publications, he has advised federal, state, and local governments. Dean is a Senior Scientist at the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute, University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.

Expert practitioners from Oregon districts who have been piloting this project will be presenting breakout sessions targeted to large, mid-sized, and very-small districts.  These sessions will highlight the scaling-up plans and strategies used to implement evidence-based practices, such as Positive Behavior Supports, Response to Intervention, and Effective Behavior and Instructional Support Systems.  Presenters will share data on the academic and behavioral health progress made by all students during implementation of the scaling-up pilot projects.

ODE suggests that district and ESD teams include the Special Education Director, Curriculum Director, principals, coaches, and other administrators.   Participants may want to consider using their IDEA enhancement grant funds, IDEA ARRA funds, or other professional development funds.
