Bilingual Instructional Assistant (Early Childhood)

Willamette Education Service District is accepting applications for a part-time (35 hours per week) Bilingual (Spanish) Instructional Assistant position. Successful candidate will follow a 187-day calendar and work as part of the Special Education Department’s Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education (EI/ECSE) Program. The position will provide services to students within Willamette ESD's service area (Marion, Polk and/or Yamhill Counties), and will begin on August 27, 2021.

Duties and Responsibilities:
*Assists in preparation of materials and equipment to effectively meet individual student learning needs
*Works with students on individualized programs as directed by the teacher
*Works one-on-one in small groups to provide assistance to students in all identified academic areas
*Under direction of the teacher, works closely with staff, families and outside agencies to provide appropriate services and programs for each student
*Assists with supervision of students during bus arrivals and departures and student detention
*Assists licensed staff in communicating with and translating for parents as requested
*Attends to self-care needs of students including, but not limited to, bending, lifting, feeding, toileting and hygiene
*Types, files and performs other clerical duties as needed
*Assists with communicating student expectations
*Monitors and reinforces positive student behavior to facilitate learning
*Assists with supervision of students in classroom
*Maintains positive, professional relations with students, teachers, other staff and school administration
*Assists in evaluating progress of student goals and gives input in developing new goals
*Maintains confidentiality
*Works closely and collaboratively with all staff
*Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
*High School diploma or GED
*Bilingual (Spanish) required; must pass agency-provided bilingual proficiency exam
*Prior to employment, provide certification of Highly Qualified (HQ) status or show documentation of a minimum of 72 hours of college credit, or Associate of Arts degree, or Bachelor's degree. Unofficial transcripts are accepted. If successful candidate does not possess any of the criteria stated above, WESD can provide a paraprofessional (HQ) assessment. To continue employment, a passing grade in all sections of the HQ assessment must be achieved no later than the end of the
employee’s probation period.
*Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with students who have significant behavioral and learning challenges
*Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with school staff, program staff, parents and community members
*Possess other education and work experience which would enhance this position
*Possess reliable transportation
*Current enrollment in or ability to successfully enroll in the Office of Child Care’s Central
*Background Registry
*Nationwide criminal history check and fingerprinting at employee’s expense are required

Salary and Benefits*:
*This is a part-time (.875 FTE) Classified position represented by the Oregon School Employees Association.
*Placement on the Willamette ESD Classified Salary Schedule Range 12, Step 1-6; ($17.16-$21.99 per hour) will be commensurate with applicant’s qualifications, relevant training and experience.
*Willamette ESD will support payment for health, dental and vision insurance premiums for qualified employees. Employer-paid PERS, holidays, sick leave, and personal days are also provided to qualified employees.

Stipend: This position qualifies for a $1,000 annual bilingual stipend upon successful completion of required bilingual fluency test

Personal Leave:

*Employees may opt to donate one day of sick leave to become a member of the Sick Leave Bank. Members may draw up to 25 days of sick leave if catastrophic illness or injury leaves the employee without paid leave time to cover their absence
from work.
