Elementary Music Teacher

Salary Level: Per negotiated agreement Classification: Certified

Reports to: Principal or Designated Administrator FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary: The Music Teacher will develop an interactive music program for all students based on the State Standards; provide appropriate instruction and intervention support, meeting students where they are at in their learning experience; and collaborate with colleagues regarding Multi-tiered systems of support as needed.

The Teacher will participate as a collaborative team member in the areas of:

Instruction

Develop and implement a student centered learning experience focused on quality interactions and content engagement.
Use research-based instructional strategies to provide effective lessons, using a range of assessments to monitor, assess, and communicate student growth to the student and their parents/guardians.
Develop and carry out clear, organized, sequential lessons and learning activities suitable for students’ developmental levels and aligned with instructional objectives.
Vary and pace teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles, actively involve students and maximize student engagement in meaningful learning.

Leadership and Advocacy

Model and teach respect with an awareness of diversity; work collaboratively with school personnel in meeting diverse social and academic needs of students.
Model and teach appreciation for all students, identifying strengths students’ bring to their learning.
Act as a liaison to help link general education instructional practices and special program students students may receive. Share student performance information/data with special education, ELL, and/or other teachers as needed.

Program Development and Implementation

Establish clear objectives and create long- and short-range plans for instruction to meet needs, abilities and interests of students.
Use a variety of approaches to assess, record and provide feedback promptly and often to students on their progress toward meeting identified learning targets.
Become familiar with Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III levels of support.
Establish and maintain open lines of communication with colleagues concerning the instructional plan and how coherence can be created with other learning experiences a student encounters during their day.
Utilize technology as related to student learning needs and job responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements:

Oregon teaching license

Desired Qualifications:

Bilingual Spanish. We desire to intentionally grow the number of bilingual staff students have interactions with.
Understanding of human growth and development patterns, learning theory and brain research.
Familiarity with a variety of age appropriate instructional, assessment and classroom management strategies that reflect current research on best practices.
Flexible and adaptive thinking for visionary planning.
Familiarity with state standards and curriculum frameworks for elementary age students.
Clearly demonstrates cultural competency, knowledge of diversity issues, and can advocate for non-traditional students and minorities.
Experienced educator with a record of effectively guiding student development of music appreciation.

Workplace Expectations:
