Dayton School District is a rural district located in western Oregon’s scenic Mid-Willamette Valley, between McMinnville and Newberg. The staff works with parents and other community members to provide a learning environment which leads to progress and success in all academic areas and encourages students to become well-rounded citizens. The student population of approximately 1,000 is served by a grade school, a grades 6 - 8 junior high, and a high school. The essential purpose of the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director position is to assist in planning and implementation of curriculum and staff development to meet high educational standards. Serve as a member of the District’s administrative team. Participate in selection, supervision, development, and evaluation of staff. Serve as building administrator in the absence of the principal. Assist principal in maintaining a safe, orderly school and a positive learning environment. Assist in enforcement of student attendance and behavior standards. Serve as an effective liaison with building and district staff, students, and citizens. Responsible for the organization and administration of athletic programs and events in all divisions of the school.
Assist the principal by serving as an effective liaison with building and district staff, students, patrons, and community.
Assist in planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of curriculum and staff development activities.
Participate in selection of licensed and classified staff members
Assist the principal in supervision, evaluation, and development of staff.
Assist in the coordination of student co-curricular activities including scheduling, grade reporting, parental contacts, and student referrals.
Assist in enforcement of student attendance and behavior standards as set by district policy and statutory regulations.
Participate in budget preparation, facility management, safety programs, and school communications.
Assist in curricular and program articulation within the middle and high schools and with other district schools.
Provide administrative assistant to district activities as assigned.
Serve as building administrator during absence of principal
Demonstrate the ability to lead staff, student or community groups in the achievement of school goals.
Responsible for the overall supervision and administration of the athletic program.
Plan and schedule all games, practices, transportation and athletic events.
Develop and manage athletic budget.
Maintain OSAA visibility and compliance, including eligibility.
Oversee in-school suspension
Develop a long term strategic plan and vision for the department.
Oversee the effective maintenance of all athletic facilities and equipment.
Value all sports and activities, and their potential, equally.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Current Oregon administrative license or eligibility for license.
Master’s Degree in education.
Minimum five (5) years successful teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level.
Successful experience in K-12 administration, preferably at the secondary level.
Experience working with culturally diverse families and communities.
Successful experience overseeing and strengthening sports programs.
Strong interpersonal skills; maintains confidentiality; remains calm and open to others in tense or difficult situations.
Strong presentation skills and ability to respond effectively to questions in one-on-one, small, and large group situations.
