CLASSIFICATION AND SALARY
Competitive salary commensurate on experience plus a benefit plan. The 2023-24 salary schedule is currently being negotiated. Salary will follow that negotiated schedule.
Work year: 220 days
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Director of Special Programs provides guidance and leadership to coordinators and specialists in planning programs to meet a variety of special student needs, and reviews such plans to ensure conformance with state, federal, and local regulations.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest traditions of public education and in support of the District’s Mission.
Directs, plans, and administers the development of the District's Special Programs including special education and gifted education, Section 504, health services, and English language learning in compliance with federal and state laws.
Evaluates all special program personnel through personal contacts and observations in order to maintain and/or improve the quality of teaching and management skills in keeping with District goals, objectives, and philosophy.
Recommends and administers the special program capital and operating budgets, with the Director of Fiscal Services, in order to meet the needs of students, staff and community most effectively.
Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with community agencies and organizations and explores ways and means of using community and school resources to provide services to students.
Directs the evaluation of the effectiveness of special programs and prepares reports on program results to be submitted to the Oregon Department of Education.
Serves as the liaison between the District, other districts, associations, and state, county, and regional government agencies regarding issues of special education, Section504, compliance requirements, health services, TAG, and ELL programs.
Establishes critical communication linkages with both internal and external audiences for special programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
A valid State of Oregon Administrative License appropriate for the position or the ability to obtain one.
Master’s degree or equivalent training in education and administration.
Experience as a special education and/or related services teacher.
