With public schools in Oregon just over a year away from having the opportunity to implement state-funded full-day kindergarten, COSA’s first Statewide Full-day Kindergarten Summit is set for Friday, May 2, at the Red Lion Hotel in Salem.

The summit is intended to inform district teams of principals, teachers, superintendents and partners as they develop plans for implementing full-day kindergarten in 2015-16.  Participants will choose from sessions focused on scheduling, staff training, academic rigor, community involvement, family engagement, developmental research, closing the achievement gap, pre-K research, and more.

Featured speakers will include Deputy Superintendent Rob Saxton, Chief Education Officer Nancy Golden, Oregon Early Learning System Director Jada Rupley, ODE K-3 Literacy Director Karen Twain, and superintendents Maryalice Russell of McMinnville and Jon Peterson of Pendleton, who serve as co-chairs of the OASE Full-day Kindergarten/Early Learning Work Group.

Presentations and information will also be provided by staff from schools with model kindergarten programs, including schools from Bend-LaPine, Corvallis, David Douglas, McMinnville, Morrow County, Portland, Salem-Keizer, Tigard-Tualatin and Woodburn.
