Position Summary
The Transportation Supervisor coordinates, supervises, and directs all pupil transportation and vehicle maintenance aspects. They serve as a supervisor for the drivers, training staff, dispatch/routing staff, and mechanics, and are responsible for overseeing the performance of driver trainers and drivers. This position effectively collaborates with all departments, programs, school personnel, students, and families in accomplishing the district mission while creating an atmosphere of confidence and support. They plan and adjust processes based on the district's needs, schools, staffing, and other jurisdictions.
This position serves under the Director of Operations or designee. The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the effectiveness of planning, budgeting, training, and maintaining compliance with policies and programs. The Transportation Supervisor directly contributes to and leads for the achievement of District and department goals and objectives. They hire and evaluate designated personnel under this position's control. Work is guided by and must comply with federal and state law, the policy direction of the School Board, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
Essential Functions
Program Operations:
Supervises and evaluates all Transportation Department personnel in accordance with District policy and the scope of the job description.
Supervises and evaluates the Assistant Supervisor in all aspects of their position.
Works under the immediate supervision of the Director of Operations.
Advises the Director of Operations and principals on developing a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program, student services, out-of-district placements, and extracurricular activities.
Advises the Operations Director and Superintendent on preparation and administration of the transportation budget.
Advises the Director of Operations and Superintendent on conditions relevant to school closure during inclement weather and other emergencies.
Prepares and reviews bus routes and schedules for all schools in the District.
Supervises the head mechanic in maintaining all District transportation equipment and develops plans for preventive maintenance.
Prepares payroll, leaves, and records for all transportation personnel.
Supervises the Safety and Training Leads in scheduling all classes necessary for driver certification as required by law.
Oversees the planning and implementation of the training program for applicants accepted for training.
Annually prepares in-service training for school bus drivers, which supports district and department goals and complies with the requirements for ODE continuation of School Bus Driver certification.
Maintains confidential records related to driver certification.
Maintains current information on district, state and federal policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
ODE Driving and Supervision Qualifications
Will complete the Certification for Transportation Supervisor as stated ORS 581-053-0110 once it is available to the public.
Customer Service:
Builds and maintains strong working relationships with school personnel, central office and building staff using a model of customer service that assures the operational program is responsive and sensitive to the needs of students, patrons, and school staff.
Will be required to interact with clients, customers, and staff who are emotionally upset, angry, or distraught. In such interactions, the employee must be able to maintain control, decorum, and professionalism.
Safety:
Oversees all aspects of accidents: response, reports, records, documentation, investigation, and re-training.
Provides all required reports to ODE.
Participates in the district's Crisis Response Team.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree or relevant experience to job duties.
Successful completion of criminal history records check, as required by law.
At least one year of successful supervisory experience.
Successful experience working with culturally diverse families and communities. In the absence of such experience, a demonstrated commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skills in communicating with diverse populations.
Effective oral and written communications.
Analytical ability, knowledge and skill in the use of office technology and office software, which includes but not limited to Microsoft Office Tools, Google Suite, and Student Information Systems.
Knowledge of mapping and routing systems with at least one-year experience.
Ability to read and interpret street and internet mapping systems.
Knowledge of district area and school boundaries.
Presentation and training skills. Able to present to large groups.
Knowledge of laws, codes, rules, policies and regulations relating to pupil transportation.
Strong understanding and history of successful customer service and ability to establish and maintain effective relations with patrons and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in business or related field.
Three years' experience assigning work in related field.
Possess a Commercial Driver's License and a safe driving record.
Possess and maintain current State School Bus Driver's Certificate, "Behind the Wheel" training certificate and appropriate licensing endorsement.
Third Party Tester certification from DMV within one year.
Core Instructor certification through ODE, or able to acquire within one year.
Two years of responsibility must be as a Behind the Wheel trainer with experience in driver instruction (per ODE rule 581-053-0140) Transportation_10_Training/Safety Lead July 2022
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in pupil transportation.
First Aid Certified Instructor.
Bilingual and bicultural skills.
This position is 1.0 FTE; 240 days per year.
