JOB SUMMARY
Instructs career and technical education classes in accounting, finance and financial systems, and/or marketing and distributive education, and supervises student activities related to the above so that students develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes related to employment in financial services or marketing occupations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES
• Teaches occupational knowledge and skills in areas such as accounting, finance, financial systems, economics, human relations and communications, business math, sales promotion, business operations and management, safety, leadership, personal development and career preparation subjects as assigned.
• Promotes activities of the Future Business Leaders of America Chapter (FBLA) or Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA)
• Organizes and maintains an active financial services advisory committee.
• Coordinates the placement, supervision, and evaluation of students on internship and cooperative work experience sites as assigned.
• Matches activities and materials to individual and group skills and needs.
• Designs or selects and uses planned sequences of instruction for the development of occupational skills and knowledge.
• Ensures that instructional activities and materials are clearly related to District, school, program, course goals and objectives.
• Provides instruction based on designated instructional materials or develops alternate materials in prescribed District format.
• Establishes and maintains an orderly and supportive classroom and laboratory environment in which students are actively participating and show respect for one another and for the teacher.
• Maximizes time when students are paying attention and working on tasks directly related to the subject matter.
• Conducts interesting and well-paced classes using a variety of instructional techniques, strategies, and materials appropriate to the lesson.
• Makes sure students understand what to do before undertaking assignments.
• Assesses, keeps track of, and provides feedback promptly and often to students on their progress and assignments.
• Uses a grading system that is consistent, fair and supportable.
• Selects and requisitions required instructional equipment, supplies, and materials.
• Ensures that materials and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored, and that inventory records are accurate and current.
• Supervises students in and out of classroom activities as assigned.
• Participates cooperatively in school, area and district-wide activities.
• Follows specified standards, policies, and procedures of the building and District.
MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Serve on building and District and school committees and councils.
2. Report issues to authorities as necessary, such as animal control, suspicious activity etc.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position may supervise volunteers, student aides, and educational assistants. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
• Oregon Teaching Certificate valid for the assignment, special Career and Technical Education Endorsement or other licensure satisfying TSPC requirements for teaching professional technical courses in financial services and/or marketing and distributive education.
• Demonstrated ability to relate positively with students, teachers, administrators, employers, parents and the community.
• Demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for employment in financial services.
Additional Qualifications
• Career and Technical Education endorsement in Financial Services and/or Marketing/Management desired.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is frequently required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and climb stairs. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

The work environment is in a school that combines standard office setting including standard office equipment (fax, copier, phone, computer, 10-key, etc.) with the standard school setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate and occasionally high. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.

The Ethical Educator (OAR 584-020-0035)
The ethical educator is a person who accepts the requirements of membership in the teaching profession and acts at all times in ethical ways. In so doing the ethical educator considers the needs of the students, the district, and the profession.
1) The ethical educator, in fulfilling obligations to the student, will:
a. Keep the confidence entrusted in the profession as it relates to confidential information concerning a student and the student's family;
b. Refrain from exploiting professional relationships with any student for personal gain, or in support of persons or issues; and
c. Maintain an appropriate professional student-teacher relationship by:
(A) Not demonstrating or expressing professionally inappropriate interest in a student's personal life;
(B) Not accepting or giving or exchanging romantic or overly personal gifts or notes with a student;
(C) Reporting to the educator's supervisor if the educator has reason to believe a student is or may be becoming romantically attached to the educator; and
(D) Honoring appropriate adult boundaries with students in conduct and conversations at all times.
2) The ethical educator, in fulfilling obligations to the district, will:
a. Apply for, accept, offer, or assign a position of responsibility only on the basis of professional qualifications, and will adhere to the conditions of a contract or the terms of the appointment;
b. Conduct professional business, including grievances, through established lawful and reasonable procedures;
c. Strive for continued improvement and professional growth;
d. Accept no gratuities or gifts of significance that could influence judgment in the exercise of professional duties; and
e. Not use the district's or school's name, property, or resources for non-educational benefit or purposes without approval of the educator's supervisor or the appointing authority.
3) The ethical educator, in fulfilling obligations to the profession, will:
a. Maintain the dignity of the profession by respecting and obeying the law, exemplifying personal integrity and honesty;
b. Extend equal treatment to all members of the profession in the exercise of their professional rights and responsibilities; and
c. Respond to requests for evaluation of colleagues and keep such information confidential as appropriate.
