POSITION STATUS:
This is a full time, 1.0 FTE position to begin with the 2026-27 school year. Salary and benefits are based on Vernonia Education Association agreement. FLSA Status is exempt.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in School Counseling, Counseling, Education, Psychology, or a related behavioral science field.
• Completion of a state-approved graduate preparation program in school counseling approved by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) or an equivalent program approved in another U.S. jurisdiction.
• Completion of a supervised practicum or internship in school counseling as part of the approved graduate program.
• Must hold or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid Oregon School Counselor License authorizing counseling services in PreK-12 school or a valid Professional School Counselor License issued by TSPC.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The 6-12 Guidance Counselor provides leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes the academic, career, social-emotional, and mental health development of all students in grades 6-12.
• Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with FERPA and Oregon student privacy laws.
• Participate in ongoing professional development
• Direct Student Services
o Student Counseling and Support – Provide individual and small-group counseling addressing academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs.
o Synergy Educational Platform - Scheduling, building sections and courses aligning with State codes, transcript entry and review.
o Academic Planning and Graduation Support – Assist students in developing four-year academic plans and monitoring progress toward graduation requirements.
o College and Career Readiness – Provide guidance to students regarding college admission, career pathways, financial aid, scholarships, and workforce opportunities.
o Classroom Counseling and Student Development – Provide guidance lessons addressing social-emotional learning, academic planning, and college and career readiness.
o Crisis Response and Mental Health Support – Participate in school crisis response & threat assessment processes.
• Indirect Student Services
o Collaboration and Consultation – Consult and collaborate with teachers, administrators, families & community partners to support student needs.
o Student Success and Data Monitoring – Monitor student progress using academic, attendance, and behavioral data.
o Family and Community Outreach – Participate in middle school to high school transition activities, including orientation and informational events.
• School Counseling Program Leadership
o Comprehensive School Counseling Program – Design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with state and national counseling standards.
o College and Career Readiness Initiatives – Support district College and Career Readiness initiatives by collaborating with the principal and 9-12 staff.
o School Climate and Student Engagement – Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive school climate for all students.
