The Oregon School for the Deaf (OSD) provides direct 24-hour educational and residential services to approximately 130 students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, kindergarten through age 21. The programs and departments at OSD include: Administration, Clerical, Classroom, Residential, Nutrition Services, Athletics, Educational Support Services, Maintenance/Custodial, and Student Health Services. OSD also acts as a resource to the entire state, providing special activities, consultation, and educational services to students, professionals, families, and the public.
We are seeking a Substitute Teachers for the Oregon School for the Deaf at the Oregon Department of Education. This position is a part- time, as needed, academic year.
The ideal substitute teacher candidates provide language-rich environments and prepare themselves as the bilingual models of separate, distinct languages in English and American Sign Language (ASL). They are committed to our campus-wide initiative that all students are supported as readers and writers in every setting. They reflect on their teaching effectiveness on an ongoing basis and they work collaboratively with every colleague to promote OSD as a valued and successful school program.
Substitute Teachers prepare deaf and hard-of-hearing students for college and the world of work by providing services and instruction that allow students to develop their skills to the best of their ability. The successful candidate(s) may teach a range of curriculum levels depending on the needs of the assigned students each year.
Required training:
• First Aid/CPR Training will be provided annually prior to the start of the school year, if you are unable to attend then you are responsible for finding certification training.
• MANDT Training PBIS training as required by the supervisor.
• Teachers at OSD must possess an ASLPI Level 3 in order to make OSD a communication-accessible environment
