GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This posting is for an elementary classroom at NWRESD Columbia Academy location.This educational provider will design and deliver educational programs to meet the individual needs of children with disabilities who are enrolled in a self-contained classroom in a behavioral school setting. This position collaborates with mental health professionals to provide a cohesive program for students who are unable to access the educational program in a less restrictive environment due to their behavioral and/or emotional needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED
Current Oregon Teaching License, Special Education Endorsement
Preferred: Additional teaching endorsement in Elementary – Multiple Subjects
Previous experience working with children with special needs
Experience in the education of children who exhibit behavior and emotional disorders and ability to utilize effective strategies to manage student behavior
Experience developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPS)
Proven ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously with students, parents, school personnel, and mental health providers
Proven ability to design and implement differentiated instruction
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develop IEPs, addressing students’ needs comprehensively
Utilize appropriate strategies (behavioral and instructional), materials, and other available resources that will assist the student to achieve the goals and objectives that are addressed in the IEP
Make appropriate referrals and assist in developing strategies for implementation of the IEP on a daily basis
Design/develop grade-level instruction to students in grades K to 6, using self-designed and district adopted curriculum aligned with Oregon standards
Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the classroom/facility and the needs and capabilities of individual or groups of students
Differentiate curriculum to meet the individual learning needs and interests of students with a wide range of performance levels
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest level of the students; maintain physical environment of the classroom
Design and oversee instruction delivered by instructional assistants;
Oversee the daily general duties and assignments of Instructional Assistants assigned to the classroom
Evaluate student progress based on work submitted, test scores, and observations both in and out of the classroom; monitor progress on behavioral and other IEP goals
Prepare and maintain student records including IEP progress reports, general report cards, classroom observations, and other records as required
Develop and maintain effective communication with school staffs to ensure smooth transition between rooms for those students who are mainstreamed
Plan and collaborate with the classroom-assigned Transition Specialist
Develop and maintain effective communication with parents/legal guardians including newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc. as needed
Participate in regular progress staffings for identified students
Meet performance standards for all licensed staff contained in the District’s Evaluation Handbook for Licensed Educators
Work as a team member on building level committee and collegial activities within the building and district
Adhere to district policies and procedures
Perform other job-related duties as delegated by the Principal
Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality
