Job Description:
We are seeking an Indian Education Assistant (Office Specialist 2) at the Oregon Department of Education. This is a limited duration, full-time position in management service. This limited-duration position is scheduled to end September 30, 2024.
The position is located within the Office of Indian Education which is devoted to Native American Education efforts. The office works collaboratively with the federally recognized Tribes in Oregon and through the government-to-government process and the Oregon Department of Education American Indian / Alaska Native Advisory Committee to develop the American Indian / Alaska Native Student Success Education Plan which supports and fosters pre-K to post-secondary initiatives which will improve outcomes for our American Indian students and youth.
What you will do!
This position provides a broad range of clerical technical support and performs administrative tasks in support of the Office of Indian Education Team and Director. This includes providing direct office support of Community Supports and Healing Ceremonies grant efforts including projects with 5 Education Service District regions within the state of Oregon and providing resources to the nine federally recognized Tribal governments in Oregon for Healing Ceremonies as impacted by COVID 19. This position will also provide information and technical assistance to the American Rescue Plan ESSA Plan Grant Manager, communities, school districts, education service districts, other education and community partners and Tribal governments relating to the project. This position will also provide clerical support to the Office of Indian Education team in the writing of spending plans, scheduling of meetings and events, and review for accuracy and compliance data relating to American Rescue Plan (ARP) ESSA Plan grants. This position will also serve as the primary liaison to the Grant Manager for the project, including managing the Grant Administrator calendar and schedule.

This Is What You Need To Qualify
Two years of general clerical experience, one year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR an Associate's degree; OR graduation from a private school of business with a certificate AND one year of general clerical experience.
Candidates who are the most competitive will possess a compelling combination of the following background, skills, and experience:
Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and time management skills
Ability to successfully organize, prioritize and complete a variety of tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment
Strong decision-making and proactive problem solving skills
Digital fluency including knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Teams and website maintenance
Ability to work with diverse staff and customers.
Knowledge of working with Tribal Governments and Native Communities.
Skill in gathering and organizing information and preparing documents.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of internal and external partners
Additional Information
Employees who are Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) participating members will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay a 6% employee contribution to PERS; the salary range noted above reflects base salary only.
