Position Description: The Sisters School District is accepting applications for candidates interested and qualified in directing our high school band and teaching other music electives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Masters or bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferably in the content area; valid Oregon teacher certificate with required endorsements for subject and subject level assigned.
• Demonstrate understanding and ability to teach students with multiple learning styles and abilities.
• Demonstrate ability to engage students with 21st century teaching strategies such as project based learning and technology integrated curriculum with computer programs such as Sibelius, Rhythm Bee, BandLab, Soundtrap, Garageband, Finale, and SmartMusic..
• Demonstrate willingness to improve competency and teaching effectiveness by participating in professional growth opportunities and professional learning communities.
• Demonstrate ability to manage program budget and personnel.
• Demonstrate ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data.
• Knowledge of State, OSAA, and OMEA policies governing band.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
• Directs and supervises all school band performances, including athletic bands, wind ensemble, jazz band, soloists, small ensembles, etc; with the understanding that many such performances will fall outside of the school day.
• Establishes performance requirements, enforces academic requirements, and verifies each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
• Provides opportunities for band participation in co-curricular and extracurricular events, including concerts, athletic events, pep rallies, and parades
• Provides instruction in additional music classes as assigned; Music Technology, Music in Film, AP Music Theory, etc.
• Enthusiasm about collaborating with a tight knit music team, in order to provide all music students with the most comprehensive education possible.
• Arranges transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
• Complies with federal and state laws, State and Local Board of Education policy, and OSAA rules pertaining to band participation.
• Obtains and uses evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensures that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
• Compiles budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
• Coordinates fundraising activities and manages funds according to school board policy.
• Maintains current inventory of all fixed assets within the department.
• Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
• Conducts ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
• Grows and maintains the program through recruitment of current and future students.
• Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
• Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
• Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position
• Meets district, state, and federal requirements, including; knowledge of procedures, policies, and regulations, incorporates requirements into work habits, follows procedures, maintains proper and sufficient documentation
• Conducts specialized student assessments and evaluations, including; is well-versed in a multitude of assessment techniques, selects appropriate assessment tools, is accurate and complete in clerical aspects of assessments
• Consults with colleagues to develop a plan that guides appropriate instruction, including; works effectively as a member of a team, contributes creative solutions to problems, uses training and experience to support classroom instruction
• Utilizes support personnel, including; determines skills and abilities of assigned support personnel, delegates duties to provide the most effective opportunities for students, monitors the effectiveness of the support personnel and provides direction and training as needed, supervises interns as needed
• Provides effective direct service to students, families, and colleagues including; takes initiative, displays unconditional positive regard with individuals from a wide variety of
backgrounds, displays flexibility in the nature and location of services provided, communicates skillfully to each audience
• Participates in ongoing professional development
• Fulfills all other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position may supervise volunteers, student aides and educational assistants. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

• Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to proficiently use a range of Google-based platforms. Ability to type
accurately and proficiently. Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and state agencies. Ability to exercise good judgment
•Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must hold a valid Oregon Teaching License endorsement and authorization for the assignment. Licenses as determined by the District including, a valid Oregon Driver License and ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Salary: $39,667.00 - $78,023.00 Based on education and experience per CBA.
Excellent benefits package and Employer-paid PERS.
