This position provides leadership and supervision of classified employees in the Transportation and Grounds


• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibilities and essential functions satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• High school diploma or its equivalent
• Hold a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a valid Oregon School Bus Driver Certificate or be able to obtain both
• Must have current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
• Working knowledge of diesel and gasoline engine mechanics
• Detailed knowledge of the Oregon Department of Education school bus driver training requirements or ability to learn
• Previous supervision experience preferred
• Successfully pass fingerprint and background check
• Pass a pre-employment drug test

• Proficient oral and written communication skills
• Ability to supervise transportation staff
• Ability to adjust to flexible scheduling of duties
• Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures and/or backgrounds
• Ability to work harmoniously with others and collaborate solutions to concerns
• Ability and willingness to effectively communicate in verbal and written modes with students, parents, and school staff
• Ability to learn new automated systems as they are brought online by the District

A. Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment
B. Annually pass the required online trainings by the District’s assigned due-date
C. Follow site and/or District protocol for reporting absences
D. Utilize the District’s electronic systems and applications related to the job

1. Assists in the hiring of new bus drivers and make recommendations regarding the hiring, discipline and termination of bus drivers
2. Acquire and maintain bus training credentials; Continuously update bus drivers on latest rules and regulations pertaining to the job
3. Monitors and completes necessary testing and reports to comply with Federal and District Drug Testing requirements
4. Drive school bus if needed
5. Train all interested staff on driving small school bus
6. Supervise and evaluate bus drivers
7. Assures bus drivers are specifically trained to present a positive public image
8. Make recommendations on school closures to the Superintendent regarding inclement weather and road conditions
9. Perform emergency and preventive maintenance and service on buses as skill level warrants; Refer other services to outside agencies as needed
10. Conduct annual maintenance inspections following state forms
11. Maintain inventory necessary to service buses
12. Maintain the bus garage
13. Assures safe, timely and efficient transportation services by directing and managing the District’s transportation operations; plans and organizes bus routes; assign drivers to daily routes, extra-duty trips, and substitute runs; directs changes in priorities and schedules as needed to assure work is performed efficiently and according to appropriate guidelines, procedures and regulations
14. Provides for the emergency dispatch of buses and drivers, as needed
15. Coordinate extra-duty trips with athletic director and administration
16. Provide information to district office as needed in regard to time sheets and payroll
17. Verifies compliance with State and Federal regulations, licensing requirements, and other applicable legislation regarding transportation
18. Make recommendations regarding major equipment purchases
19. Assists by being available on-call during non-work hours and holidays for Transportation personnel

1. Safely operate a variety of manual and power tools and equipment
2. Maintain grounds, including all district property, except those areas immediately around buildings that are maintained by building custodians
3. Ensure the use of insecticides, pesticides and herbicides are applied in compliance with the Oregon Integrated Pest Management In Schools rules
4. Maintain records related to the use of insecticides, pesticides or herbicides
5. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment
6. Install or move recreation equipment, fences and other field equipment
7. Configure and maintain automated irrigation systems; Change sprinklers on the football field
8. Mow football field at least once a week during the growing season
9. Keep bus garage and grounds free from clutter; Remove any unneeded/surplus items to waste site
10. Remove snow from driveways and parking areas of all district facilities; Parking areas and bus loading zones will be first priority
11. Maintain grounds equipment
12. Order supplies and materials for upkeep of grounds
13. Prepare athletic fields for each sports season, home contests, and/or upon request from the athletic director or administration
14. Communicate with the Superintendent and/or Principal in regard to issues surrounding transportation and/or grounds
15. Provide courier service between schools, district office, and post office when school is in session
16. Take annual inventory of district tools and equipment
17. Provide support to building custodians in the event of breakdown or major repairs
18. Make recommendations regarding equipment purchases
