$95,000.00 - $110,000.00 to start DOE

$10,000.00 Hiring/Relocation Bonus (terms and conditions apply)

Organizational Description:

Kids Unlimited Academy is an extended day, extended year school designed to meet the needs of working families and provide additional support for students and families of need. Our charter School opened in 2013 as the latest outgrowth of the mission of Kids Unlimited of Oregon, which has worked in the highest poverty neighborhoods of Medford, Oregon for the last 23 plus years, providing the most comprehensive academic and enrichment after school and summer programs in Southern Oregon. Kids Unlimited of Oregon is dedicated to providing high quality services to students and families of need in Southern Oregon. Currently those services include Kids Unlimited Academy, district partnered after school programs, a tutoring center, athletics programs, summer camps, and winter and spring break camps. Organizationally we have a no excuses environment where all staff members fundamentally believe that all children can be successful and achieve at the highest levels.

General Description:

In 2013, Kids Unlimited opened the first high quality, no excuses, charter school in the Medford School District to serve the students with the greatest need, by providing an extended year, extended day program utilizing best practices to ensure that all of our students have a chance to excel in school and leave our school in eighth grade on a trajectory to be successful in their high schools, post-secondary schools, and careers. We acknowledge how high the stakes are for our students and work tirelessly to ensure that they have the resources, knowledge, and skills to overcome any and all hurdles that might stand in the way of them achieving their goals. In 2019-2020, Kids Unlimited Academy had 470 students enrolled in grades Kindergarden-8. In March 2020, Kids Unlimited opened PreKids Unlimited for preschool children in order to give them a head start with school!

The Environment:

Kids Unlimited Academy provides an extended day, extended year program, bringing students approximately 30% more instructional time than the Medford School District's district schools;
Engage New York Math & Pearson reading programs are the academic cornerstones of Kids Unlimited Academy.
Students receive daily interventions in their areas of greatest need through a school-wide Title 1 program;
KUA curriculum will also have a strong STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics) focus, which will lay the foundation for success in the 21st century workplace.
Students receive specials instruction from licensed teachers in Art, Music/Drama, and PE.

Essential Responsibilities include the following:

Manage and implement school wide culture systems, including socio/emotional system, "Mindfulness" practices, and Restorative Justice frameworks.
Observe teachers to better understand issues (Curriculum, Instruction, Student)
Implement & manage VIBE (mindfulness) room protocol and oversee VIBE staffing
Reinforce KUA principles of Integrity, Respect, and Responsibility and oversee the implementation of our KUA standards and greetings
Oversee recess/cafeteria duty staff & Create duty schedule for recess/lunch supervision
Implement activity based structured recess to provide structured activities for students as a preventative behavioral measure
Manage SWISS behavioral data - Use SWIS data to plan and implement behavioral interventions
Serve as the point person for managing behavioral crisis-intervention and acute behavioral issues
Run weekly SWISS Tier 2 meetings with behavior team & use data to plan interventions
Oversee and facilitate monthly PBIS team meetings, coordinate PBIS Expectation Stations (3 times a year)
Meet with parents regarding behavior and establish behavior plans & interventions as needed
Provide 504's supports, Behavior support plans, CICO/PBIS supports for Tier 3 students
Implement Tier 2/1 supports using RULER approach as the tool for K-8
Reinvigorate the "advisory" program for 6-8th grade & Class Meetings for K-5 - provide feedback to staff, improve and enhance consistency in practices
Manage attendance and tardies and systems related to supporting students and families with attendance concerns (attendance supports, recognition, home visits etc.)
Execute and build upon the student incentive and accountability systems to drive positive student behavior and strong school culture based on the needs of the specific school community (lunch clubs, MS Student Council, morning check ins, morning flow, VIBE dances, Middle School Jam nights (4 per year), Elementary School Family Nights, Begin Schoolwide Family Mornings, etc.)
Participate in recognition and celebration events and other school-wide culture-building activities
Oversee and problem solve flow of the building to create a safe & calm environment for students
Provide support for after school programming
Inform parents of KUA behavioral approach, systems, and how KUA is implementing programs in several parent informational nights
Assist with Student Safety Plans, Risk Assessments and Threat Assessments
Maintain accurate student discipline records, documenting all conferences, suspensions, and phone calls for behavior
Provide behavioral data for grant reporting
Work with third party providers to wrap-around local supports and interventions including mental health, parent education, and other opportunities.
Demonstrate exceptional leadership:

Directly train teachers & staff in developing clear and consistent classroom expectations and routines
Support teachers in building meaningful relationships with students and families
Directly coach teachers to help them master classroom management and classroom culture techniques that are consistent with KUA core standards and school culture norms
Provide leadership in behavior intervention process including monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the behavior intervention process and modify student plans as necessary to ensure maximum response to intervention
Serve as a member of the school leadership team to shape the direction of the school and coordinate interdepartmental practice
Routinely facilitate community circles/class meetings to support student needs (Ex. conflict resolution, character development, impulse-control, social-skill building, etc.)
Demonstrate teamwork, cooperation and open communication with all staff of Kids Unlimited & Kids Unlimited Academy, toward the achievement of school goals and objectives
Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings, open house events, student performances, parent meetings, teacher observations, professional development workshops, and other scheduled school activities where staff presence is requested as a condition of employment
Disseminate information which may pertain to educational opportunities; health and safety; student code of conduct; testing/assessment; parent conferences; parent group activities; corporate community volunteer opportunities; student performances; and events of a special nature
Oversee the implementation of a similar behavioral system at other potential future KUA sites
Perform other duties and administrative functions as assigned by the Director of Academics
Education and Experience:

This role requires an individual who is/has:

Bi-lingual preferred. Fluency in Spanish and English preferred.
Administrator license preferred. Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, education or related field required. Master's degree in any of the above-mentioned areas preferred.
Minimum 3 years of teaching, counseling, and/or administrative experience in a K-12 school setting, candidates with K-8 experience preferred.
Experience leading and managing staff preferred.
Demonstrated ability to build exceptionally strong relationships with students and adults that lead to ambitious outcomes.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and strong interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
Demonstrated experience building strong rapport with parents, with experience teaching parenting or collaborating with parents to produce outcomes strongly preferred.
Strong classroom management and student discipline skills.
Experience in a high-performing school serving a high-needs community, preferred.
