Job Goal: The position of Dean of Students is for the purpose/s of overall student management and dealing with student attendance issues. Other needs and processes may also be assigned by the building administration.

This is a temporary TOSA position for the duration of the 2022/2023 school year.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.

Holds a valid Oregon Elementary/Secondary teaching license and/or school counselor license and/or principal level administrative license.
At least three (3) successful years as a teacher.
Ability to maintain and verify completeness of records, meet schedules and deadlines.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to communicate with appropriate student age groups requiring the use of both empathetic and disciplinary approaches.
Ability to use judgment in the analysis of facts and circumstances surrounding individual problems in determining and prioritizing the necessary actions.
Genuine enjoyment and understanding of children and awareness of general purposes and goals of public education.
Willingness to operate according to policies and procedures.
Ability to investigate situations involving students and take preventive or corrective actions.
Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, teachers and administrators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):
Assist teachers, parents and students in resolving non-academic student issues in the school, such as behavioral problems.

Maintains records of any student disciplinary actions taken in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and District policies.
Confers with parents, teachers, support services personnel and students on matters of discipline and problem solving.
Provides mentoring services to students and consultation services to parents.
Reports to administrators, teachers, school attendance staff, parents, and students relative to issues affecting student performance.
Recommends appropriate programs for students to assist them with behavioral problems.
Instructs and advises students regarding their responsibility to adhere to school rules and policies, to foster a safe school environment, and to respect other individuals and property.
Assists in arranging for appropriate tutorial instruction related to assigned academic work.
Assists administrators, teachers, and school attendance staff in addressing student attendance problems.
Assists in the administration of the In-School Suspension Program and co-curricular activities.
Arranges meetings as directed with students, parents, teachers, and administrators regarding disciplinary problems in school.
Coordinates with community and government agencies relating to drug and alcohol abuse, truancy, and other conduct.
Assists in developing policies and practices to assure building security and safety.
Encourages students to set and maintain appropriate standards of classroom behavior
Maintains accurate, complete and confidential records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulations
Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues
Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students, parents, and staff
Attends meetings and serves on committees as directed
Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem to be appropriate to the Board or Administration.

Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision. Meet the District minimum physical requirements, basic skills, and/or health standards for the position, including the recent COVID-19 vaccination mandate - proof of vaccination or exemption must be provided prior to start date.

CONTRACT & ASSIGNMENT LENGTH:Temporary contract for the 2022-2023 school year, exact days TBD.

SALARY: Salary and placement will be in accordance with the District's salary schedule for licensed employees for the 2022/2023 school year. (Current schedule for full time is $52,264-$89,068) Dependent upon verified years of experience and education as shown on official transcripts. Actual salary pro-rated based on actual contract days, not to exceed 191.
