The Assistant Director of Special Services supports the vision guiding special education programs and services for students from kindergarten through post high school with disabilities with a focus on improving educational outcomes. Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding the provision of services to students with disabilities is a primary responsibility for this position. The Assistant Director works closely with the director and all staff within the department, as well as, coordinating with the staff from other departments and schools to ensure compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) federal and state regulations. This role will support district special services programming.

The Assistant Director also serves as the Special Programs Secondary Principal who serves as the educational leader for students with disabilities, responsible for managing the policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe and orderly learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the school district. Achieving academic excellence requires that the special programs principal works collaboratively to direct and nurture all members of the program and to communicate effectively with parents and other building administration. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for scheduling, curriculum development, assessment and report writing, extra-curricular activities, personnel management, emergency procedures, and facility operations. The admininstrator must have strong commitments to his/her own professional development, as well as a willingness to be a contributing member of a highly effective team by demonstrating commitment, flexibility, positivity, collaboration, integrity and sense of humor.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides support and assistance to the Director of Special Services in budgeting, professional development, program development and ODE compliance.
Supports the evaluation of the effectiveness of Special Services programs and prepares reports on program results jointly with planning and assessment staff.
Assists in the selection, hiring, and training of Special Services department based staff
Evaluates special programs staff performance, coordinates findings with the Human Resources Department.
Participates on the Special Education leadership team focused on program and curriculum development and collaborates with district instruction and curriculum department to ensure curriculum and instruction provided with disabilities is based on consistent evidence-based practices in all schools across grade levels
Ensures that high quality instruction takes place in all classrooms every day.
Supports implementation and professional development of best practices for inclusive education for students served by special education kindergarten through transition programs.
Supports implementation of culturally responsive, social emotional learning and trauma informed teaching practices and anti-bias education.
Coordinates related in-service for the improvement of instruction, safety and behavioral intervention.
Supports district special education services and ensures special education is implemented in compliance with federal and state laws, as well as, board policies
Establishes and ensures compliance procedures and systems are implemented for the identification, service coordination, and placement for eligible students in special education
Establishes and promotes high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
Assists and supports the monitoring and evaluation of legislative and legal issues that relate to Special Services issues
Establishes and maintains channels for communication and interaction between building administrations, staff, community partners, students and parents.
Attends and actively participates in all IEP meetings to assess and monitor the needs of students and the community and implement changes in schedules, curricular offerings and program(s) to meet those needs.
Offers equitable time to all schools assigned
Coordinates the development and maintenance of accurate up-to-date inventories of equipment and supplies.
Willingness to serve on district level committees.
Coordinates with the building administration and district lead to assist with maintenance and cleaning of classrooms to ensure adequate service for the maximum number of years and to provide a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff.
Establishes and maintains harmonious relationships with students, fellow employees, and the general public.
Maintains and communicates short and long term vision, mission and goals.
Organizes the program to ensure the safe and orderly operation for students and staff.
Ensures that high quality instruction takes place in all classrooms every day.
Assists in budgeting to ensure that programs receive the necessary tools and supplies to fulfill their functions.
Has the ability to motivate staff, have a broad knowledge of a variety of content areas and methodology and be able to analyze data to identify program strengths and weaknesses, planning accordingly.
Be familiar with the values and mores of the community in which they will serve, and develop liaisons within the community to foster the development of positive community relations.
Strong critical reading and writing skills as they need to be able to read and analyze reports, disaggregate data and write reports and memorandums.
Anticipates and performs such other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be required to ensure an educational program that is beneficial to all students.

COMPENSATION:

235 day contract

Salary range: $121,219.27-136,219.27
