We are seeking an Information Systems Specialist 5 in the Operations and Support unit of our Office of Finance and Information Technology (OFIT) with the Oregon Department of Education. This is a full-time, limited duration position represented by the SEIU. This position has a contract end date of June 30, 2025.

This position is located in the Office of Finance and Information Technology (OFIT) Unit of the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) . This unit's primary functions are the support of technology to deliver on initiatives and meet ODE's technology needs in support of the ODE mission to foster excellence for every learner through innovation, collaboration, leadership and service to our education partners.
The technical expertise of staff in this unit are available to school districts and ESDs to support business and financial functions. The work of OFIT affects all internal staff and every school, program, school district and ESD in the state. Nearly all students in the State of Oregon public school system are affected by the work in this unit. Data is collected from nearly every educational administrative unit.
What you will do!
A good way to think of the ISS5 is like a help desk technical lead. This position is the ultimate escalation point for general troubleshooting tickets and the gateway to network team tickets. You'll dabble a bit on the admin side, too! This is a position for people that are really well versed with helpdesk, but not quite experienced to be a full-time admin.
As an Information Systems Specialist 5, you'll support the Network and computer defense analysis and support for the Oregon Department of Education by collecting, managing and reviewing access logs, monitoring network and systems equipment, access, and license administration. This position is a technical expert in the design, recommendation, and use in regards to end user devices, applications, network configurations, user access management, WAN routers, and LAN switches and Wireless configuration.
On a regular basis, you will have the opportunity to provide professional expertise to specialized business areas and units within the Department of Education and coordinate and collaborate with cross agency staff to ensure the customer’s needs are being met.
A day in the life:
Provide Tier 3 user support to solve hardware, software, network, and systems problems received by internal and external customers of ODE
Access Management
Design and maintain training materials and system/application user manuals
Build implementation plans for new Network construction, which often involve multiple vendors, multiple jurisdictions, and cross agency cooperation
Administers Mobile device management system
Administers MDM system for Agency

What are we looking for?
Four (4) years of information systems experience in: Network or systems administration, JAMF/MDM, M365
OR
An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field;
AND two (2) years of information systems experience in: Network or systems administration, JAMF/MDM, M365
OR
A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field may substitute for all of the above.
