This role is a hybrid of remote work and will need to report to office when business or operational needs are dependent on onsite activities. Remote work is embraced to the fullest extent possible without interfering with business.

This position is on the Safe and Inclusive Schools (SIS) Team in the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OEDI). The SIS Team is responsible for the development of equitable policies, procedures, and rules for the School Safety and Prevention System (SPSS) and other SIS initiatives, and works closely with both internal teams (i.e., Mental Health in Education) and external partners including Education Service Districts (ESDs), local school districts, as well as community-based organizations that serve youth and students via safety and prevention systems. This position is a limited duration (LD) opportunity to support a federal Bureau of Justice Administration (BJA) grant that ODE received through 2025.

What you will do!
The Behavior Safety Assessment Specialist position is critical to further bolster the work of the SIS team and associated initiatives over the BJA grant period through a specific focus on behavioral safety assessment for Oregon’s K-12 education system statewide, with an emphasis on cultural responsiveness and transformative practices. The person in this position will support the grant planning, management, and completion and will partner directly with a regional ESD and school districts to conduct and implement deliverables as outlined in the BJA grant such as but not limited to a toolkit for transformative and restorative practices in behavior safety assessments practices, development and implementation of a statewide community of practice, develop resources and training materials, that integrate culture responsiveness, transformative justice, restorative practices and research based method in Behavior Safety Assessment.

This role will be responsible for the implementation and guidance of plans, manages, and evaluates Oregon State program(s) and give consultative advice to agency staff, other state agencies, or local government and community organizations. Often collaborating with other state agencies, government and community organizations or private businesses to plan program services, establish new programs, or maximize resources to achieve similar goals. They will also develop program standards that others must follow to obtain program funding, work with others to gain agreement on acceptable operational procedures and use of resources, or develop new strategies for program funding.

Minimum Qualifications (Need to have):
A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a degree related to the agency program that demonstrates the capacity for the knowledge and skills; and four years experience coordinating or administering a program

OR;

Any combination of experience or education equivalent to seven years of experience that typically supports the knowledge and skill requirements listed for the classification.

Desired Attributes (Nice to have):
Candidates who are the most competitive will possess a compelling combination of the following background, skills, and experience:
Experience, knowledge and understanding of policy, legislation, program development and implementation of policies specifically related to restorative and transformative justice in educational settings and related to physical and behavioral safety.

Experience in large and small group facilitation, and in providing training, technical assistance.

Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders, particularly culturally and individually diverse groups, including the solicitation and valuation of diverse viewpoints.

A strong commitment to racial equity and inclusion including the ability to learn and apply knowledge and skills to interrupt systemic oppression, and engage in and promote equitable, culturally-responsive practices.

Experience in multi-disciplinary research and practice related to equity, student health and wellness, and transformative and restorative justice planning and implementation.

Preference may be given to bilingual/multilingual candidates.
