POSITION SUMMARY

The position of Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) - Dean of Students - Middle school is to assist the building principal in the overall leadership of the school. This position will provide support to staff and students through effective building behavioral interventions. This position will also provide professional development to licensed and classified staff on instructional and behavioral practices, in alignment with the district’s behavioral health and wellness vision and mission. The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) - Dean of Students - Middle School- reports to the Assistant principal and helps coordinate student services and does not supervise any employees.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- Assist with student supervision and implementation of the student code of conduct ?
- Counsel students and parents in regards to school and district policies
- Assist staff and parents in developing student behavioral expectations
- Assist in the planning, development and implementation of individual student functional behavior assessments and positive behavior plans
- Serve as activities coordinator (stipend)
- Model and coach school staff on proactive behavioral interventions for all students
- Assist with student discipline and attendance, through restorative practices
- Design and implement behavioral and disciplinary systems in conjunction with building administrators
- Guide school-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) practices
- Support district Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) work and sit on school MTSS teams, as needed
- Seek out appropriate best practices and emerging research in the field of behavioral health and wellness
- Develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
- Communicate effectively with parents, counselors and students, and staff ? Provide documentation of student progress
- Provide timely and accurate feedback/documentation to students and parents
- Restorative practices for student management and conflict
- Ensures equitable outcomes for diverse student populations through effective interventions and bias incident response protocols.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

- Maintains consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position.
- Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving information or sharing information and expertise with students, colleagues and parents/guardians.
- Confers regularly with immediate supervisor
- Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Education and Experience Required

-- A minimum of a Master’s degree in an appropriate field of education

-- Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
-- Ability to complete paperwork accurately; verify and correctly enters data ? Ability to avert problem situations and intervene to resolve conflicts
-- Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job
-- Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech and dress in a neat, clean and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting
-- Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required

-- Holds an appropriate license from Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon
