Special Education Teacher - Intermediate

Successful candidates will:

Recognize students’ different needs, abilities and interests and be flexible to adjust instruction to meet those needs, abilities and interests
Responsible for both instruction and writing IEP's with transition goals
Familiar with Oregon graduation requirements
Demonstrate experience or a strong interest in working with students with cognitive disabilities, life skills needs, and/or intensive behavioral challenges.
Have experience implementing individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs), functional behavior assessments (FBAs), and working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Be skilled in teaching adaptive behavior, self-help skills, community-based instruction, and functional academics.
Maintain a structured, predictable, and positive learning environment that supports communication, regulation, and independence.
Implement evidence-based strategies and supports such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), TEACCH, PECS, or other structured teaching frameworks.
Remain calm, patient, and solution-oriented when working through behavioral incidents or dysregulation.
Use data to inform instructional decisions

Minimum qualifications:
Possess or be able to obtain an Oregon Teaching License
Possess or be able to obtain a Special Education Endorsement
Culturally proficient skills and strategies

Highly desirable qualifications:
Bilingual, preferably Spanish/English
Training or certification in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), or similar behavioral strategies.
Experience writing and implementing IEPs for students with significant disabilities, including transition planning for post-secondary outcomes (employment, independent living, community access).
Experience supporting paraprofessionals or educational assistants, including modeling and coaching best practices.
Comfort with assistive technology, augmentative communication devices (e.g., Go Talks, AAC apps), and other supports for non-verbal or minimally verbal students.
Understanding of trauma-informed practices and de-escalation strategies.

Compensation:
Position starts fall of 2025. Current salary range is $45,516.00 - $83,946.00 (depending on level of experience and education). The Milton Freewater School district offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package that includes:
