The Coos Bay School District is accepting applications for a dynamic and experienced educational leader to join our team as Elementary Principal for Madison Elementary, a K-2 building, in Coos Bay, Oregon.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of young learners, working in collaboration with dedicated educators, staff, and families. This position places a particular emphasis on implementing effective behavioral strategies and fostering early literacy development.

Coos Bay School District is located on the picturesque Oregon coast and serves over 3,100 students. Our schools meet a wide variety of student learning needs within safe, secure, age-appropriate learning environments. We currently operate 2 elementary schools (K-2), 2 intermediate schools (3-6), 1 junior high school, 1 high school (9-12) and 1 alternative education campus. We also have four Preschool Promise classrooms.

Responsibilities:

-Provide visionary leadership to create a positive and inclusive school culture that fosters academic excellence, social-emotional development, and character growth for all students, with a focus on early literacy.

- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and stakeholders to develop and implement innovative curriculum and instructional practices that promote early literacy skills and address the diverse needs of students.

- Implement evidence-based behavioral strategies and intervention programs to support students in developing positive behaviors and social skills, ensuring a safe and nurturing learning environment.

- Foster a supportive and collaborative professional learning community that empowers teachers and staff to implement effective behavioral interventions and literacy instruction.

- Build strong partnerships with families, community organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance student learning, behavior, and early literacy development.

-Manage the day-to-day operations of the school, including budgeting, scheduling, facilities management, and compliance with district policies and regulations, with a particular focus on resources to support early literacy initiatives.

- Communicate regularly and transparently with students, families, staff, and the broader community, fostering open dialogue and collaboration around behavioral strategies and literacy development.

-Lead the recruitment, hiring, and retention of highly qualified faculty and staff, with a focus on selecting individuals who are skilled in implementing effective behavioral and literacy strategies

Desired Qualities and Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Education or related field.
Hold, or be qualified for, an Oregon Administrative License.
Minimum of 3-5 years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level, with a focus on early literacy and behavioral strategies.
Demonstrated leadership experience in a school or district setting, with a proven track record of improving student achievement, school culture, and implementing effective behavioral strategies and literacy initiatives.
Deep understanding of best practices in early literacy instruction, curriculum development, and behavioral interventions.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and effectively engage with diverse stakeholders around behavioral and literacy initiatives.
Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and the ability to promote a culturally responsive and anti-bias learning environment.
Knowledge of educational laws, regulations, and policies, and the ability to ensure compliance and uphold high standards of professionalism and ethics.
