JOB SUMMARY:
Dayton School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate High School Counselor to support students in grades 9–12. The ideal candidate will provide academic, social-emotional, and college/career guidance to ensure that all students thrive. We value counselors who are proactive, student-centered, and committed to equity and resilience.
Opportunities to participate in extracurricular coaching or advising are also available. Bilingual (Spanish) candidates are strongly encouraged to apply!
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Counseling or a related field
Valid Oregon School Counselor License (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with students, families, and staff
Commitment to equity, student success, and continuous improvement
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with trauma-informed practices and social-emotional learning
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Familiarity with TAG, 504 plans, and mental health services
Willingness to engage in extracurricular activities or coaching
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide individual and group counseling to support students’ academic and emotional development
Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to implement school-wide support systems
Assist students with course planning, post-secondary preparation, and career readiness
Intervene in crisis situations and serve as a liaison with external mental health providers
Support development and implementation of 504 and TAG plans
Contribute to school climate initiatives and faculty committees
Foster an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and supports all learners
