INTERPRETER/TRANSLATOR I – Special Education & Evaluation Services
Classification: Classified 190 day calendar
Reports to: Special Education & Evaluation Services Program Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
POSITION OVERVIEW
Educators supporting students and their families in their native language is quintessential in establishing trust and understanding. This role is instrumental in creating that connection. Without this position we cannot welcome families to fully participate in their children’s education or the shared school community. The importance of the interpreter/translator cannot be understated as the pinnacle member of a bilingual school team.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School diploma or equivalent required.
2. Successful experience in bi-lingual interpreting and translating, required.
3. Ability to read, write, understand, and converse proficiently in both English and Spanish languages required.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and the general public using tact, courtesy, and good judgment and to provide communications to and from parents regarding all normal communication relating to the Linn Benton Lincoln Education Service District (LBL ESD).
5. Ability to learn and understand the requirements of the special education laws in order to effectively translate/interpret for staff and parents.
6. Such alternatives to certain above qualifications may apply as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent and/or Board of Directors.

8. Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.
9. Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators, students and district staff as directed.
10. Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.
11. Ability to sit in child-sized chairs for extended periods of time and/or sit on the floor for extended periods of time.
12. Ability to provide own transportation as deemed necessary for traveling to schools and districts throughout the school day and sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle.
13. Ability to lift, carry or transport up to 25 pounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Facilitate communication for students and parents of the non-English speaking community in school and home settings, and school-related meetings.
2. Assist in the administration of various tests and assessments.
3. Provide exact interpreting between: the LBL educator, the non-English speaking community, children and parents in school-related activities and meetings.
4. Provide exact written translations of all related materials and forms including but not limited to: evaluation reports, education forms, and parent communications.
5. Provide language interpretation/translation services and support to the family during instruction sessions, parent groups, assessments, and meetings.
6. Provide direct interpretation to children in the classroom.
7. When requested, assist families in making appointments with other agencies.
8. Keep programs/personnel informed as to the needs, requests, or issues of child and family.
9. Assist families with forms and other informational data required by the program.
10. Demonstrate flexibility and ability to communicate in written/verbal form a good disposition in working with co-workers, constituent district personnel and the public.
SALARY AND BENEFIT INFORMATION
Salary and benefit information shown are based on full-time employment (1.0 FTE) based on the current school year
Placement on the Linn Benton Lincoln ESD Classified salary schedule will be commensurate with applicant’s qualifications, relevant training, and experience
Linn Benton Lincoln ESD will provide an Insurance CAP to assist with health, dental and vision insurance premiums
