Job Summary: The roles of a special education teacher are to assess students' needs and create
individualized education plans (IEPs), collaborate with general education teachers and other
professionals to ensure students' needs are met, and act as advocates for students with disabilities
to ensure inclusive learning environments.
Certification Required: Preliminary or Professional Teaching License with an endorsement in
Special Education to meet TSPC requirements.
Essential Duties:
Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for
students to include present levels of educational performance, special education needs,
instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required
to meet those goals.
Provides consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptions, instructional
modifications, adaptive equipment, and other similar instructional interventions to meet
the needs of students with disabilities.
Direct individual and small group instruction
Develop appropriate systems to regularly monitor educational progress and maintain
complete records and reports
Provide an educational environment where instruction is individualized for each student
and includes supports and modifications that facilitate learning
Attend data and SIT team meetings
