ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL - CHURCHILL HIGH SCHOOL
Full-Time Position - $122,527 - $143,339 Annually
Position Overview
The High School Assistant Principal assists the building principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff and parents. This includes such responsibilities as: leading, directing, counseling, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective parent, teacher, and child communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents; and managing budget items. The assistant principal acts in the capacity of the principal during the principal’s absence from the school.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered qualified as determined by Human Resources.
Education
● Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field from an accredited college or university
● Possess an Oregon administrator license.
Experience
● Minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience, plus 3 years related administrative experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
● Master’s Degree
● Experience in supervision and administration.
● Experience conducting group facilitation and process management.
● Qualify for a Standard First Aid and CPR certificate.

4. Knowledge and understanding of adolescent physical, emotional, and intellectual development, effective behavior management techniques and de-escalation SEL strategies.
5. Ability to effectively communicate, disseminate, and effectuate verbal or written communication and directives to a diverse group of administrators, staff, and the broader district community.
6. Maintain a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and dependability and maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA and adherence to the competent and ethical educator practices.
7. Promotion of equity and diversity in all settings and processes, and a commitment to anti-racists principles.
8. Know and maintain compliance with state and federal laws governing all aspects of the building and District including the following: ORS, OAR, IDEA, FOIA, and CIPA.
9. Exceptional prioritization of tasks, timely completion of work assignments, ability to take the initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
10. Demonstrates respectful, flexible and effective teambuilding skills of cooperation, communication and active participation.
11. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution.
12. Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.
13. Ability to lift, carry at least 25 pounds and/or the ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.

Essential Functions
This is not necessarily an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, and duties associated with this position. The supervisor of this position may modify this list at any time it’s deemed necessary.
1. Assists the principal in the discharge of their duties, including upholding district and state requirements and expectations. Acts in the capacity of the principal during the principal’s absence from the school or school activities.
2. Assists in the role of instructional leader to promote student behavior that is supportive and conducive to the implementation of the school’s instructional programs and goals. Implements co-curricular activities, including athletics, athletic supervision and clubs.
3. Attends to, promotes and maintains the safety of the building environment and individual safety of students and staff on site and implements safety drills for fire, lockdown, etc. Provides first aid and CPR if needed.
4. Assists in the selection, training and implementation of District standards and initiatives.
5. Assists with scheduling, implementation of goals, and selection of instructional materials; analyzes test data; determines ways to improve instruction and student goals. Designs and implements programming for Title 1 (for Title schools only), assisting with programming for students who are English Learners, identified for Special Education Services, etc.
6. Assists in the supervision and evaluation of classroom instruction, evaluation of staff to ensure standards are achieved and performance maximized.
7. Assists in implementing instructional strategies, including supporting the needs of diverse learners, delivery methods, assessment, and staff development techniques for improvement of instruction.
8. Provides guidance and support to teachers dealing with student behaviors as well all instructional duties. Models and promotes good school-parent relationships when discussing specific student problems with parents.
9. Assists in organizing parent conferences, back-to-school nights and other times when staff is available to parents to discuss their child’s learning and behavior.
10. Acts in a supportive role with the principal in work with parents, teachers, and the community to promote the effective flow of communications and ensure positive relations with parents, business leaders and community members. Listens and responds to parent concerns with sensitivity.
11. Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts. Conducts parent/student meetings.
12. Assists in the orientation and continuation of new and current staff members to the teaching environment at the high school level through the facilitation of meetings, processes, etc. for the purpose of meeting curriculum guidelines and/or ensuring that state mandates especially as it relates to the area of students, personnel policy and procedures and general building practices are achieved.
13. Assists the principal with developing and managing the school budget and implementation of Human Resources policies, including completing building-level investigations of parent, staff, and student complaints.
14. Administers discipline procedures as stated in the Student Handbook and District discipline policies, pursues innovative strategies, preventative approaches, and proactive plans for students who exhibit at-risk behaviors. Conducts search and seizures, works with district safety personnel and law enforcement when needed.
15. Develops and manages a campus supervision plan and supervises the campus supervisors. Organizes and directs cafeteria supervision during lunch periods.
16. Works in conjunction with the principal in supervising all school activities, i.e., field trips, orientation programs, assemblies, plays, musicals, and other special events. Attends all after-school activities. Supervises administrative detention for students.
17. Assists in the promotion of positive school climate and staff morale through recognition programs and honoring those who excel.
18. Assists with: hiring and orientation of licensed and classified staff; teacher and classified employee evaluation; working through concerns and classroom management; planning and directing meetings, staff development, trainings and in-services; communications; listening, providing and receiving feedback, and encouragement for all staff.
