JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: TEACHER - English
LOCATION: Riverdale High School
CONTRACT DAYS: 192
FTE: 1.0 (full time)
SALARY: $48,583.19 - $102,025.50 (based on the 2024-25 licensed salary schedule)
FLSA: Exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students. The teacher performs instructional and related duties as they pertain to the state and district standards in science education, and in accordance with District policies and the terms of the teacher contract.

REQUIRED Qualifications, Licenses, Skills & Experience
1. Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred (transcripts required)
2. Valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate subject and/or level endorsements.
3. Outstanding oral and written communication skills, which are effective across various audiences, including students, parents, and staff.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of legal and ethical rights and responsibilities.

PREFERRED Qualifications, Skills & Experience
1. Previous successful science teaching experience
2. Valid First Aid and CPR-AED Cards

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Possesses knowledge of District policies and regulations relating to areas of responsibility.
2. Develops and implements activities that encourage students to be lifelong learners.
3. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
4. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students with special attention given to TAG, special education, ESL, and other students who require modified programs of study. The classroom curriculum should adhere to State standards and School Board policy.
5. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the developmental maturity and interests of the students.
6. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
7. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
8. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to students.
9. Employs various instructional techniques and media consistently to meet the needs and capabilities of individuals or student groups, recognizing the physical limitations of the space provided.
10. Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and other objectives.
11. Assesses students regularly and provides progress reports as required.
12. Seeks the assistance of District specialists as required for referrals related to exceptional education services, such as special education, gifted and talented education, ESL, and the like.
13. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
14. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
15. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains order in the classroom. All classroom rules should be consistent with the School Board and building policies.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Plans and supervises the job performance of educational assistants in cooperation with the administration.
2. Works with classroom volunteers to provide enhanced learning opportunities for students.
3. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as requested or needed.
4. Supervises students both in and out of the classroom.
5. Maintains professional competence through participation in District-provided in-service activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities related to job responsibilities.
6. Performs other duties as assigned within contractual agreements.
7. Adheres to all provisions of the currently negotiated Certified Contract.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
A moderate degree of physical stamina with occasional lifting of 10 to 50 pounds. Ability to move freely to various locations within the classroom and other supervisory settings (cafeteria/playground). Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and bending. Frequent repetitive activities include hands, arms, and legs for clerical-related work. Exposure to noise and activity in a school setting. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary, fringe benefits, working conditions, and the like are negotiated every three years between the Riverdale School Board and the Riverdale Teachers Association.
