Position Title: High School Head Varsity Coach – Football
Location: Dayton High School
Grades: 9–12
Reports To: Athletic Director and Building Principal
Contract Status: Licensed Extra Duty Assignment (DEA Agreement)
Stipend: $5,281 per season
Stipend Structure: Single-rate stipend. This position does not have steps or ranges.
The Dayton School District is seeking a committed, organized, and student-centered Head Varsity Coach to lead and oversee the Football program at Dayton High School. This position provides leadership and direction for the entire program and is responsible for student-athlete safety, program culture, staff supervision, and compliance with district and OSAA expectations.
The Head Varsity Coach serves as the instructional and leadership head of the football program and is responsible for building a positive, inclusive, and high-performing athletic environment that supports student growth, sportsmanship, and academic success.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership and overall direction for the football program.
• Ensure student-athlete safety, supervision, and compliance with district policies and OSAA regulations.
• Supervise, support, and evaluate assistant coaches.
• Establish and enforce expectations for athletes regarding conduct, academics, and sportsmanship.
• Plan, organize, and conduct practices and competitions.
• Coordinate program logistics including equipment, uniforms, facilities, and scheduling in collaboration with the Athletic Director.
• Maintain accurate eligibility, participation, and compliance records.
• Communicate effectively with athletes, families, administrators, and staff.
• Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive team culture.
• Support academic accountability and expectations for student-athletes.
• Model professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct at all times.
• Ensure equity and Title IX compliance within the football program.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Valid Oregon teaching license or current ODE coaching certification.
• Previous coaching experience in football preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of OSAA rules and eligibility requirements.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Commitment to student safety, equity, and positive school culture.
Conditions of Employment:
• Successful completion of a criminal history check and fingerprinting.
• Completion of required district and OSAA training upon hire.
• Possession or ability to obtain all required coaching certifications.
