Job Title: ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR / SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Classification: CONFIDENTIAL/SUPERVISORY

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Accounting Supervisor/Senior Accountant manages the accounting functions of the district including Financial Statement preparation, general ledger management, budget support and cash management. This position reports directly to the Director of Business and Support Services, and supervises accounting functions process by staff.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform district’s cash management activities, i.e. move tax receipts and Department of Education funds between accounts payable and payroll accounts; make appropriate transfers of funds to and from the state investment pool. Invest District funds in approved types of investments. Prepare cash flow analyses.

Monitor and control daily cash flows and pay debt service on funding’s.

Supervise and coordinate fiscal year financial audit. Including maintaining relationships with auditor’s and preparing schedules, reconciliations and financial statements.

Review and create reports for grant managers. Including monitoring fund balances of assigned programs and related financial activity and coordinating accounting management for federal and state grant programs. Prepare bank reconciliations.

Advise and work directly with staff to insure that all accounting tasks are completed accurately and on time.

Supervise the district’s accounting functions, including purchase order processing, accounts payable, cash receipts, and cash management.

Prepare financial reports and projections, including monthly report to the School Board on district finances.

Assist in the preparation of budgets for special funds

Monitor accounting functions to insure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Manage the District’s financial systems software and purchasing cards.

Conduct general ledger analysis; review for accuracy; research discrepancies of financial information and/or documentation.

Reconcile assets and liabilities of the district.

Perform special projects assigned by the Director of Business and Support Services, i.e. financial data for budget preparation, estimates of ending fund balance.

Provide and maintain adequate controls and safeguards over district assets.

Establish, revise controls and accounting procedures for new and ongoing programs.

Maintains and reconciles fixed assets.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position.

Conduct special financial studies and perform other projects and duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience of at least five years. CPA Preferred.
Five years of responsible school accounting office experience or equivalent, including knowledge of general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and state and federal taxes and reports preferred.

Skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Experience with Infinite Visions software preferred.

Knowledge

Thorough knowledge of the principles of budgeting and accounting.
Knowledge of legal and reporting requirements of school district financial and attendance accounting and state/school district accounting and financial relationships.
