We are currently seeking an Equity Specialist in the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (Education Program Specialist 2) at the Salem Office of the Oregon Department of Education. This is a permanent, full-time position and is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
What you will do!
As the Equity Specialist, and under the supervision of the EDI Director and/or guidance from the EDI Assistant Superintendent, you support the implementation of the Oregon African American/Black Student Success Plan (HB2016). You also organize and co-facilitate the African American/Black Student Success Plan Advisory Group charged with providing recommendations and advocacy for the African American/Black Student Success Plan. You monitor and support grantee progress and community-based providers associated with the success plan across the P-20 system and provide professional learning support in equity, diversity and inclusion to various stakeholders in collaboration with ODE leadership, staff members, and other EDI team members.
What are we looking for?
Candidates with a Master's degree in Education or related field from an accredited college or university and five years of education experience in education (e.g., classroom teacher, counselor, itinerant service provider), two years of which includes leadership experience (e.g., lead teacher, program coordinator or director, school administrator) in education.
A Doctorate in Education or related field from an accredited university may substitute for two years of the education experience, but not for the two years of leadership experience. An Oregon Standard Administrative License (issued by Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission) may substitute for the two years of leadership experience.
The person in this position must possess a fundamental understanding of social policy, culturally responsive pedagogy and practice for diverse learners, and access and opportunity gaps in diverse student populations. They must have a high level of organizational skill, adherence to attendance policies set forth by ODE-EDI leadership and attention to detail, demonstrate evidence of implementation of research-based best practice in addressing the needs of diverse learners, evidence of collaboration across the PD-20 school system to improve resources and opportunities for students of color. They must possess the ability to communicate and collaborate with various communities of color through outreach and facilitation.
