Our Mission: To guide students in becoming responsible lifelong learners and compassionate community members through interdisciplinary studies in the arts and sciences within a safe and nurturing environment.

Executive Director Needed:

Molalla River Academy (MRA) is a small K-8 charter school in rural Oregon founded on the premise that education is decisive and enduring to the degree that it supports the development of intellect, character and creativity.

Learning at MRA is characterized by a process of collaboration and a sense of family. Students are part of multi-age learning groups, and use creative theme-based units combined with art and science elements for a well-rounded education. The collaborative spirit of MRA is enhanced by the interdisciplinary nature of the curriculum using hands-on activities and cooperative learning that not only focus in their own classrooms, but also extends to other classrooms and where appropriate involve the greater community in which they live.

Job Description

Team Oversight:
-Works with MRA team to identify and develop short and long term goals
-Provides support in achieving goals
-Monitors progress of MRA team toward completing goals
-Acting leader of MRA: support, implement and help refine the core values that define the vision of MRA and to guide staff in their ability to do the same.
-Provide direction and leadership to the staff, and provide opportunity for open, honest communication.
-Work closely with the administrator to complete these tasks as needed.

School-wide action plan:
-Implementing policies as outlined by the Board in alignment with MRA’s Mission as is currently developed.
-Demonstrate active, positive representation of MRA to the whole community, including students, families, MRA school Board and MRSD.
-Ensures the whole school is considered in all decision making, including MRA legal council and board as needed.
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

School Finance:
-Oversee and ensure MRA’s fiscal stability through appropriate spending practices within the adopted budget and with Board insight.
-Provides oversight of all MRA fiscal operations and activities
-Works within current MRA 2020-2021 budget
-Provides direction for short term and long term spending priorities
-Works with the Board Chair to frequently review the school budget to ensure that the spending does not cause a deficit.
-Works with the Board Chair to analyze school cash flow to ensure fiscal stability.
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Governance - Board of Directors:
-Prepares and presents reports to the Board of Directors on a monthly basis.
-Assists the board chair in the development of board agendas Ensures that agendas are posted in a timely manner.
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Staff Meetings:
-Sets or continues with the current staff meeting schedule
-Sets the staff meeting agenda, or delegates to assistant to executive director as needed.
-Facilitates the staff meeting, or delegates to assistant to executive director as needed.
-Identifies, prepares and facilitates trainings and workshops or brings in outside trainers as needed
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Legal Compliance:
-Stays current on Charter-related Laws and information
-Leads the school in compliance with policies and regulations
-Understands and adheres to local, state and federal policies and requirements
-Oversees all legal matters including but not necessarily limited to Leases, Contracts and MOUs
-Ensures MRA is prepared for the state audit
-Responsible for enforcing the school charter agreement
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Policies:
-Reviews existing policies for relevance and updates as needed
-Identifies and develops new policies as needed
-Work with the Board of Directors to continue the development of procedures and policies and provide feedback to the Board as to the efficacy of such adopted policies/procedures.
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Facilitates:
-Reviews facility needs annually.
-Responsible for getting bids if work is needed in accordance with our lease agreement.
-Researches possible purchase of current facility or negotiates lease on behalf of the school.
-Oversees facility compliance and other facility issues as needed.
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

School Vision/Mission:
-Promotes the school mission/vision
-Ensures that school decisions align with the school mission/vision

Public Relations/Community Outreach/Leadership:
-Participates in school and community activities.
-Acts as spokesperson for MRA
-Represents MRA at school events, and in the community
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Communication:
-Utilizes an effective leadership model to promote communication and collaborative decision making
-Oversees and participates in MRA Newsletter.
-Demonstrates consensus building
-Provides a positive environment in which dialog may occur
-Promotes trusting and supportive relationships with staff, students and parents
-Maintains visibility and an “open door” policy with families and staff
-Values, recognizes and celebrates the contributions of all employees
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

School Safety:
-Oversees the development and implementation of the school wide safety plan
-Oversees the development and implementation of the MRA ODE Blueprint
-Oversees the purchase of necessary PPE to abide by regulations according to ODE Blueprint and Communicable Disease Plan.
-Ensures MRA is meeting all legal guidelines/obligations to bring students back to Hybrid model learning as soon as possible.
-Works with the MRA staff, MRA board of directors, county agencies, and local law enforcement to establish a safe school environment including physical, intellectual and emotional safety as a well as respect for differences and diversity
-Works with the MRA staff to develop clear consequences for students who do not follow the rules and/or create an unsafe environment for other students
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Supervising Teacher Support:
-Motivates staff to develop and utilize authentic, realistic methods of instruction and assessment to measure student progress toward learning expectations and standards
-Supports conflict mediation as needed
-Conducts staff evaluations according to evaluation policy/procedure
-Researches and supports professional development for the staff
-Works one on one with staff to develop professional development needs and supports them in attaining these goals
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Educational Program Development & Management:
-Involves the staff in the continuous development and improvement of educational programs
-Ensures that the educational program reflects the best instructional principles/methods
-Facilitates implementation of new and existing programs
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Curriculum and Instruction:
-Facilitates the implementation of Molalla River Academy program to promote student achievement
-Has a clear understanding of and promotes state content standards and assessments
-Works collaboratively with staff to continually improve curriculum and teaching methods
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Staffing needs: (hiring)
-Evaluates and determines hiring needs
-Conducts interviews and makes the final decision regarding who to hire
-Ensures that new hires fit the Molalla River Academy personalized learning model/philosophy as well as fulfill the school’s credentialing needs.
-Ensures that all new hires have undergone proper vetting to ensure the safety and security of our students, staff, and families.
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

IEP, SARC, and other required reporting:
-Ensures all required reports are completed, reviewed and submitted in a timely manner
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Special Education:
-Works with MRSD staff to ensure adequate staffing is in place.
-Works with MRSD staff to ensure legal compliance under the individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA)
-Attends IEP meetings as the administrator or sends a designee
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Student Support Team (SST):
-Ensures that the SST process is clear and that the intervention process is properly implemented. -Attends SST meetings when needed
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Oversight:
-Board will hold an evaluation of job performance every thirty days, to include staff surveys and reports from the Interim Executive Director.
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Special Tasks in Interim Period:
-Work with the Board to identify weak areas in current policy and procedure, and to come up with creative solutions.
-Help staff and Board implement auditors suggestions, and oversee the completion of the 2020/2021 audit
-Work with staff and board to create and implement ODE blueprint for hybrid schooling.
-Help board and staff identify and apply to applicable grants for infrastructure improvements.
-Work closely with the administrator assistant to complete these tasks as needed.

Experience needed:
-Current TSPC Administrator License
-Bachelor/Masters in education field
-At least 3 years experience in administrator position
-Experience in managing, supporting and promoting growth in staff
