About the Position

Canby School District is seeking a leader with an outstanding record in the field of education to serve as interim superintendent during the 12-month period from July 1, 2014 until June 30, 2015. The successful candidate will join staff, students, parents, and community as an integral partner to develop, communicate, and strategically implement comprehensive learning that ensures excellence in education for all students. The Board expects an annual base salary range for the position between $125,000 to $135,000 plus benefits to be negotiated with the selected candidate.

The district provides educational services to diverse populations and geographic attendance areas. Trost Elementary is a dual-language immersion magnet school (Spanish & English). Another campus, Ackerman Center, houses many programs, both for the district and for the Canby community at large. Canby's educators continue to focus on increasing students' achievement while responding to higher academic standards, tight fiscal constraints, and mandated student assessments. Improvement in these areas continues as quality educational experiences are provided in clean, safe, and updated state-of-the-art facilities. The Canby community has a long and rich history of support for its schools and youth as well as a tradition of civic-minded service. The district encourages community access to its school facilities for extended day and weekend activities as well as youth sports programs. The community’s support through local organizations and businesses has provided additional opportunities for students and staff.

About the Community

Canby School District is situated in the heart of Clackamas County, 25 miles each from both Portland and Salem on Highway 99E with quick access to both I-5 and I-205 freeways. In addition to the city of Canby students, the district also serves rural segments of Carus, Oregon City, Wilsonville, and Hubbard. Canby is a growing community of 15,000 residents, offering the amenities of a larger city while maintaining a rural ‘hometown’ sense of community. Canby is home to the Clackamas County Fairgrounds, which has hosted the annual county fair and rodeo since 1907. In addition, Canby has a swim center, movie theatre, winter and summer concerts, and performances in the Richard R. Brown Fine Arts Center on the Canby High School campus.
