General Summary
A full-time, 10-month position reporting to the PYP Coordinator, the Librarian works as a member of the administrative team to manage the library and educational resources in support of the school’s faculty, curriculum and student needs. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Administration and Library Management, Managing a full time Library Assistant, Library Collection Development, Cataloging Resources, Teaching and promoting literacy and information gathering skills, Managing Library resources supporting PYP, Developing and Managing all Library programming.

Essential Functions

Administration/Management
Develop and maintain Library Media Center (LMC) policies, handbooks, action plans
Develop and manage Library budgeting
Contribute to the library schedule through participation in the Scheduling Committee
Manage Library schedule and planned events
Develop, implement and manage all Library programs and classes
Collaborate with teachers and PYP Coordinator to enhance curriculum and provide resources for accomplishing curriculum requirements
Collaborate with teachers in developing units of inquiry by acting as the resource specialist
Responsible for all purchasing—books, supplies, library PYP materials, databases and other online resources
Update and maintain online library catalog
Develop and maintain LMC handbook and an extensive LMC website
Manage and train Library assistant, interns and volunteers
Organize, maintain and clean physical space in support of library assistant
Create and update all Library displays in support of library assistant
Cultivate relationships with teachers, parents, students and colleagues in other schools
Responsible for Library iCart/mobile computer lab
Administer Library overdue notices and lost book fees in support of library assistant
Create ITK (In The Know) articles relating to the Library

Collection Development

Select and purchase fiction, nonfiction, reference, audio books, online resources, etc. in 4 languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese
Consider PYP attributes and attitudes in general collection development
Develop and update a list of picture books that support different learner profiles and attitudes from the IB
Consult with teachers on PYP resources by attending collaborative meetings as needed (Collaborative Planning and/or Tuesday’s Faculty meetings)
Select and purchase books and periodicals for professional support and education of the teaching staff or by recommendations by the PYP Coordinator, Principal,Head of EC and HOS
Consult professional journals
Read book reviews and follow literacy trends
Conduct collection analysis
Titlewave management
Cultivate relationships with publishers, vendors and authors
Support and advocate for internationalism and multiculturalism by supporting the mission and vision of the school
Assist teachers in locating, selecting and purchasing target language literacy materials

Cataloging
Adhere to standards of cataloging
Manually catalog all Chinese and Japanese books, some Spanish
Copy catalog most English and some Spanish
Shelf maintenance
MARC Records input and maintenance in Library World
Inventory and weeding
Process resources and book donations
Book processing for circulation
Train library assistants according to the LMC’s unique collection and requirements

Teaching, Information and Literacy
Plan and conduct weekly library classes for EC-Kindergarten to develop Early Literacy skills and identify early literacy skills
Partner with Homeroom teachers in the development of classroom instruction about research skills and database instruction, media awareness and literacy, online safety, citing sources, plagiarism, resource gathering and note taking, literary Elements and multimedia instruction
Teach and promote a love of literature, information literacy through research and inquiry.
Develop Recommended Reading lists - through Suggested Reading Lists for ages, Feature Books and Book Displays
Participate in the development of an ICT program in partnership with the Technology specialist
Promote the use of Livebinders and other online resources through regular updates in The Loop and In The Know (ITK)
Weekly book checkout for students in grades K-5 in support of library assistant
Book checkout for teachers, parents and extended community in support of library assistant

PYP Resource Manager
Develop a physical resource bin(s) (LIB) for each Unit of Inquiry for every grade in four languages
Develop and maintain a digital bin (DIB/Livebinders) for each Unit of Inquiry
Consider PYP attitudes and attributes in bin resource development
Promote international mindedness through library displays of PYP Learner Profile and Attitudes
Promote inquiry and research by facilitating access to challenging and age-appropriate materials for students
Participate in OCC Librarian Community

Programming/Events
Develop, organize, manage and promote the following programs offered through the Library: Author Visits, Dr. Seuss Day, Reading Challenges, Character Parties, Lunch with the Librarian, Pocket Poems/Poetry Month, Summer Reading program and customized booklists, Interactive Summer Reading site, Bookfairs

Other Tasks

Advanced skills in MS Office
Experience with Google Suite (gmail, google docs, google calendar)
Advanced skills utilizing online database software

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
During peak activity periods, this position may be requested to work in excess of 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week.
Capable of quickly traveling to multiple locations on school campus including up and down hills, lifting or otherwise carrying 40 pounds, traveling up/down flights of stairs, standing and sitting for long durations, typing for continuous hours on a computer keyboard, and reading information on a computer screen.
Ability to travel occasionally to attend off site events.

Required Qualifications
Teaching Certificate with a Library Media Endorsement
5 years experience as a Librarian at an educational institution with cataloging experience
Management Experience including Library Assistant and or volunteers and interns
Communicate fluently in written and spoken English

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Library Science plus 2 or more years experience as a Librarian
Bilingual: Communicate fluently in written and spoken English and any of the languages taught at the school: Spanish, Japanese or Chinese
Comfortable in an international community with experience living and/or traveling overseas and studying other languages.
Event planning experience

Compensation/Benefits
$45,000 - $50,000 Depending on experience and qualifications
Typically a 10 month position has agreement renewed in June and schedule is August 24th, 2015 – June 24th, 2016
