GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The position of Special Education Teacher is for the purpose/s of improving student success in academics or skills through implementing approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; developing lesson plans; modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments; providing a safe and optimal learning environment and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. Design and deliver high school level math instruction across a broad range of skill areas. Work
collaboratively with mental health therapists in the classroom to provide a cohesive program for those students who are unable to access the educational program in a lesser restrictive environment due to their behavioral and emotional needs.
QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
• Current TSPC teaching licensure
• Preferred: Special Education endorsement.
• Have experience in the education of children who exhibit behavior and emotional disorders.
• Have working knowledge and experience in implementation of Individual Education Plans.
• Have the ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously with students, parents,
school personnel, and mental health personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Develop and deliver math instruction for high school students
2. Differentiate math curriculum to meet the individual learning needs of students with a wide range of performance levels in math
3. Advise special educator in the development of Math IEP goals for each student that addresses their needs comprehensively.
4. Participate fully with the others on your team in the decisions regarding the students in the
program.
5. Utilize appropriate strategies (behavioral and instructional), materials, and other available
resources that will assist the student to achieve instructional goals and objectives, and also
those addressed in the IEP.
6. Develop and maintain effective communication with team members, parents, colleagues and
administrators.
7. Prepare and maintain records on student’s progress.
8. Participate in progress staffings on identified students.
9. Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
10. Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff and customers at all organizational levels.
11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
12. Adhere to policies of the NW Regional ESD.
13. Perform other job-related duties as delegated by the Principal.
