The nature of this role requires a hybrid of remote and office work. The ability to report to Salem is required when business or operational needs are dependent on onsite activities.
We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the Oregon Department of Education. If you are a forward-thinker, accomplished supervisor and have strong strategic and business acumen, this could be the ideal position for you!

Each day ODE employees impact the provision of educational services to more than 580,000 K-12 school children.
Our CFO provides leadership and direct management to two subordinate managers, and two leads that coordinate a team of nearly 40 staff in all our financial units. Our Financial units consist of Budget, Accounting, and Fiscal Grants that provide critical support and guidance through general accounting, internal controls, financial reporting, budget development/budget execution, and grant tracking and reporting for over $13 billion in state and federal resources, as well as the development of a $16 Billion budget on a biennial basis (figures based on 21-23 biennial budget). They are also essential to ensure the effective delivery of statewide services through a network of partners that include 197 school districts, 19 education service districts, and over 500 other community based or governmental organizations.
Our CFO also serves as a senior financial adviser to the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Information Technology and shares the financial health of the organization with the State Board of Education, and other various committees as necessary.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for leaders with a minimum of six years of management experience in a public or private organization which included responsibility for each of the following: a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, d) budget preparation, and e) financial planning, reporting, and forecasting

Strong knowledge of the principles and process of budgeting and financial management as it relates to operational management and program delivery.
Experience in development and management of state agency budgets is desirable.
Exceptional communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills.
Understanding of accounting theory and an understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the Oregon Accounting Manual (OAM), the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) Statements, the Oregon State Payroll System (OSPS) process, Workday, and Budget and Management (BAM) processes.
Experience with state financial software package; R*STARS, ORBITS, ORPICS, etc. is helpful.
Experience with Power BI is helpful.
