We are seeking a Wellness Policy Specialist (Operations & Policy Analyst 1) to join our Child Nutrition Program at the Oregon Department of Education. This is a part-time limited duration position expected to end June 30, 2025. This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union.

This is a hybrid role that is required to report to the office when business or operational needs are dependent on onsite activities. Remote work is embraced to the fullest extent possible without interfering with business.

What you will do!

This position works closely with the OHS Grant Manager to support school wellness efforts for students and staff as aligned with the ODE mission statement and the CDC Healthy Schools cooperative agreement.

Typical Duties Include:

Evaluating and recommending program priorities on school wellness initiatives to achieve state program goals.

Developing statewide policy, procedures, and priorities consistent with the mission and policies of the Oregon Department of Education and the the CDC Healthy Schools cooperative agreement.

Providing assistance to local education agencies, after school and summer programs, and K-12 schools in the development and implementation of policies and practices to promote nutrition, comprehensive physical activity programs, and school health services.

Serving as a member of the core OHS Team and member of the OHS Advisory Committee.

Providing administrative and operational support to the OHS Grant Manager and OHS team.

What you need to qualify

A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, Finance, Political Science or any degree demonstrating the capacity for the knowledge and skills

OR

Any combination of experience or education equivalent to three years technical-level experience that typically supports the knowledge and skill requirements listed for the classification.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to respond to routine and non-routine issues with diplomacy and tact.

Ability to provide customer service, technical assistance, administrative and operational support to internal and external partners professionally and accurately.

Experience in planning and managing projects and ability to coordinate diverse activities to ensure completion of projects, tasks, and assignments.

Knowledge of public and community health, schools nutrition, comprehensive school physical activity programs, and school health services.

Knowledge of relational databases and ability to write queries and construct data reports.

Experience using MS Word and Excel to develop and interpret pivot tables and graphs.

Experience working with a positive and professional approach and ability to maintain a work environment that is respectful and accepting of diversity among team members and the people served.
