Compensation: $39,000 to $73,746 depending on education and experience
**25-26 school year contract currently under negotiation**
The position also includes a stipend for pep band, concerts & festivals

Santiam Canyon is located in the beautiful foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range and proudly serves the communities of Mill City, Gates, Detroit, Idanha and surrounding areas. Located close to Salem and other larger towns, Santiam Jr./Sr. High School is an ideal location to teach and collaborate with educational professionals helping students achieve their limitless potential. Santiam operates on a 4 day school week and teacher contracts are 170 work days.

Position Overview:
This is an exciting opportunity to continue to develop an existing music program, building on our existing music courses which include teaching/coordinating band, music/audio production and modern music performance. The music teacher is also responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the school’s music program, including teaching, leading performances, overseeing student development, and budgeting. You will collaborate with school administration, faculty, and the community to promote the music program and inspire young musicians.

Music Teacher Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning
Plans a program of study that meets learning standards and the individual needs, interests and abilities of students
Plans a balanced music program, organizing class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allocated class time
Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials
Instructs students and assigns relevant independent work
Grades promptly and accurately
Tests and evaluates students’ abilities and progress
Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skills of students
Prepares report cards and progress reports
Informs parents of student progress concerning academic achievement and behavior through phone calls, email, and occasional in person meetings throughout the school year
Facilitates conferences with students and parents
Conducts appropriate assessments of students’ work and maintains accurate and regular data on students in areas of attendance, grades and IEP progress, if applicable
Supervises students in hallways before, after, and between classes, and occasionally on field trips
Uses a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
Leads and coordinates performances at both the middle and high school levels
Coordinates with Athletic Director for Pep Band during fall and winter sports seasons

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Follow and maintain knowledge of all District policies and procedures
Appropriately maintain and secure confidential records and inquiries
Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours as required
Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations
Attend work regularly and on time
Other duties may be assigned

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from four-year college or university
Master’s degree or equivalent strongly preferred
Prior successful experience teaching students in a school setting strongly preferred
Must have a valid teacher’s license and subject specific endorsement(s) through the Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) or have an ability to obtain the needed endorsements
