THE OPPOTUNITY
Hope Chinese Charter School (HCCS) is seeking an inspiring, student-centered, and culturally competent educational leader to serve as Principal for the 2025–2026 school year.
As Oregon’s top public charter school with a nationally recognized Mandarin Chinese program, HCCS serves over 400 K–8 students alongside a thriving private preschool. It is a place where language, culture, and academic excellence converge in a vibrant, inclusive community. The Principal will lead HCCS into its next chapter, championing instructional excellence, cultivating a strong and cohesive team culture, and providing deep support to staff, students, and families. In close partnership with the Board of Directors, the Principal will help shape the school’s long-term leadership model and play a pivotal role in defining the next frontier of HCCS’s growth and success.
This is a pivotal leadership role during an important moment of transition and growth. We’re not just looking for someone to manage the team, we’re looking for someone to inspire, develop, and elevate our educators and programs and continue to build and grow the culture that makes HCCS so unique.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
INSTRUCTIONAL & PROGRAM LEADERSHIP
-Set and champion the academic vision for HCCS, ensuring alignment with our immersion model, charter goals, and the HCCS mission.
-Oversee curriculum implementation and instructional delivery across grades K–8.
-Partner with teachers to ensure coherence, excellence, and collaboration.
-Provide regular feedback, mentorship, and professional development for teachers and educational staff.
-Ensure the effective execution of TAG, RTI, and special programs.
PEOPLE & CULTURE
-Build and foster a collaborative, trust-based culture that retains exceptional staff and inspires purpose-driven work.
-Lead annual teacher goal-setting, evaluation, and growth planning cycles.
-Facilitate ongoing feedback and communication loops with teachers, staff, and families.
-Support and coach emerging teacher leaders and player-coaches.
-Collaborate with our Board and staff to ensure a supportive and inclusive school environment that reflects the strengths of Chinese and American cultures.
SCHOOL OPERATIONS & ADMINISTRATIVE OVERSIGHT
-Partner with operations and admin staff on logistics, communications, safety, and scheduling.
-Represent teacher and student perspectives in any discussions related to budgeting, facilities, or compliance.
-Collaborate with the HCCS Board to co-design a longer-term leadership model that includes a dedicated operational leader or leadership structure.
Note: A full-time operational or executive leadership role and/or structure will be defined in the months ahead.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
MUST-HAVES
-In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the ideal Principal candidate will be or have the following:
-Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills to engage with diverse stakeholders, including parents, students, teachers, staff, board members, community leaders, and educational partners
-Proven ability to cultivate a positive, inclusive culture by coaching educators, building trust across teams, resolving conflict with care, and elevating collective performance through clarity, empathy, and accountability.
-Experience working effectively in multicultural communities and demonstrating a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
-A proven track record of successful school leadership experience and academic results, particularly in charter schools or immersion-focused educational institutions
-Experience as a lead administrator, including oversight responsibilities for each of the following areas: strategic development, operational planning, management and evaluation, program development and implementation, communications; contract development and administration, budget management, and accounting and personnel management
-Demonstrate the ability to acquire and maintain a valid Administrator license or registry from Oregon TSPC, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations and standards for educational leadership (OR eligibility for a Charter School Registry or Emergency License if other qualifications align)
-Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university; an advanced degree is preferred (MBA, MPA, JD, M.Ed)
NICE-TO-HAVES
-Preference for an individual knowledgeable of Chinese culture, and/or proficient in Mandarin, and/or Chinese immersion/dual language programs
-Background in charter or mission-driven public schools and familiarity with OSBA’s Charter policies
-Certification or work toward an administrative license is desiredBenefits
This position offers a competitive salary range of $100,000 - $130,000, and robust benefits including 100% employee premiums covered for medical, dental, and vision insurance; as well as enrollment in Oregon’s retirement program (PERS) and the option to participate in a 403(b).
