Overview of Position:
The Dual Language Instructional Coordinator directly supports dual language teachers and school leaders in providing strong language acquisition learning for students by continually improving instruction. The Instructional Coordinator works alongside teachers to plan instruction, is present in classrooms to model practices, and provides feedback and coaching in primary and secondary dual language schools. With the guidance of district administrators, the Instructional Coordinator designs and facilitates professional learning, ensures that program regulations are met, and collaborates with school leaders to develop knowledge about dual language and support students, families, and staff. The Instructional Coordinator uses current dual language research to collaborate with district staff to improve the program and focus on students’ growth in academics, bilingualism and biliteracy, and cultural understanding.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Guide the implementation of the language allocation plan and coach dual language teachers to continually improve instruction in primary and secondary classrooms.
Assist district staff in designing and delivering coherent dual language professional learning.
Coordinate dual language assessments and systems for monitoring progress data.
Lead the interpretation and use of dual language assessment data.
Set up ongoing structures for collaborating with, and supporting dual language teachers to improve instruction.
Participate in curriculum adoptions and identify resources for language acquisition learning.
Regularly collaborate with school administrators to assist in strengthening the dual language program and daily teaching practices.
Collaborate with school principals to develop cultural understanding and practices that exemplify a dual language school.
Work with the ELD Instructional Coordinator to coordinate learning and services for students who are part of the ELD and dual language programs.
Coordinate and co-facilitate dual language parent information sessions.
Provide structure and ongoing guidance to assist administrators and dual language teachers in developing students’ language acquisition, bilingualism and biliteracy, and academic competence.
Model language acquisition and translanguaging strategies and support dual language teachers in implementing them.
Participate in local and state dual language collaboratives.
Qualifications:
Three years of teaching experience in a dual language classroom teacher;
Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred;
Experience with teaching and leading Sheltered Instruction strategies;
Experience with dual language programs and instruction;
Oregon teaching license;
Valid Driver License;
Masters Degree preferred.
Physical Demands of Position:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility. Manual dexterity and coordination are required for less than 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.
